A lovely quirky venue on the outskirts of Holmfirth that's great to combine with a visit to that lovely village. This venue is very busy and making a booking is recommended - many people were being turned away because they hadn't done so. The food offerings are basic but very tasty with locally sourced produce. Both the Sunday roast meal and afternoon tea were excellent. The staff are friendly, welcoming and courteous without being intrusive. Recommended for a visit.
Brilliant cafe for the classic car automotive enthusiast. very large area with loads of tables, and a huge visual feast of classic automotive memorabilia everywhere. Food was great it's a cafe remember, not a restaurant, so don't expect a large culinary menu or experience The only let down was the service. The staff themselves were fantastic, very helpful and friendly, but for some unknown reason the service was very slow. Taking forever, and that was on low volume day. Even just getting service for drinks took an age. Still highly recommended, just factor in a decent wait.
A lovely gem of a place and dog friendly too. It was extremely busy when we visited on Tuesday 29th November 2022 and the very friendly staff were rushed off their feet. Was understandable as we waited 45 minutes for our all day breakfast. The coffee was lovely and strong. Had a walk around looking at the old cars and memorabilia on offer. Even cars for sale if you fancied buying an old classic. Glad I booked a table for us as it’s advisable to do so. Easy booking online too.
Before visiting I would suggest that you booked a table for a drink & light snack. A quirky cafe & the toasted tea cakes were very large. I took my father-in-law who loved the place. It was a great place full of nostalgia for the old & some insight into the past for the younger generations. It’s on the outskirts of Holmfirth so you could combine it with a visit. Some great displays of old cars & bikes. Look out for the Raleigh Chopper above the food counter.
While the afternoon tea was lovely, the sandwiches were really good and cakes also good, in fact we had to take a doggy bag home. We were out in the small room which was freezing and felt forgotten. It took way too long to be served and even longer for the food to come. It took the sparkle off my birthday celebration which is why we went to spend my gift vouchers.
If you like old cars and Bicycles mixed in with a cup of tea and a cake, this is a nice place to visit. Quirky Café with lots of memorabilia around the walls and ceiling. Ploughman's lunch enough for two people. Difficult to find, no just about impossible without Sat Nav. Generally portions are very large. Fish and chips NOT RECOMMENDED. Chips described as twice cooked, yet we're the colour of old leather on the outside but under done inside. Fish batter very greasy. Not cheap at £13.95 either. Stick to a ploughman's or sandwiches. Afternoon tea again, enough for two people. Staff very pleasant. Waitresses in 1960's style dress.
Rarely am I surprised by what is a bog standard English Breakfast, but W-O-W, absolutely every element was exquisite. In addition to this was a very interesting premises that as a patrol head was a joy to experience. HIGHLY recommended
Went today for afternoon tea for my mum and it was honestly amazing. The staff are very friendly and the food is delicious. The selection on the afternoon tea was great and they were happy to swap a few things around. I had the veggie afternoon tea which was great. My mum had the traditional afternoon tea with prosecco that she really enjoyed. There was so much we needed a box at the end to take some of the cake home. The only criticism was it took nearly an hour for the food to arrive. We weren't in a rush so it wasn't a huge problem, but it was getting a little frustrating.
We visited the Carding Shed for a meal with friends. It was excellent, with good portions and some of the best chips I’ve had. The display of classic cars was worth a visit on its own too.
Lovely afternoon tea but it arrived 40mins late, even though we had booked it in advance. Would still recommend but be prepared for a wait especially at weekends.Recommended dishesAfternoon Tea
