I live just up the road from the Mark Addy - it's one of my favourite pubs. The owner is really friendly and has moved heaven and earth to resurrect the place after it got into trouble earlier this year. There are various events including a comedy night and a northern soul night. Their selection of real ales is always good. The entire pub has wall to ceiling windows along one side overlooking the canal and there is a large outdoor seating area, also next to the canal, for sunny days. If you're in the area pop in, you won't regret it!
A Manchester classic that refuses to be broken. The Addy has overcome regular floods and kitchen issues to stay a regular and reassuring presence on the Manchester nightlife scene. The pub itself has a great riverside location, with lovely outdoor space. They have a good selection of beers, but can be a little slapdash with their upkeep. Despite this, it's personality and perseverance ensure that it is a regular haunt
Having moved from London was pleased to find this place. Hard to find a restaurant in Greater Manchester that doesn't offer two meals for £9.99. Food good, portions too big. Northerners, you need to confront your size vs quality fears. Even the espresso was filled to the brim.
A novelty of a pub but an old venue. This hidden hostelry is down some covered stairs and embedded in the walls of the Irwell as it creates the visible boundary between Manchester and Salford. The pub has a checkered history of ownership and has been several variants of pub and restaurant over the years. In 2014, it is back to being a pub. A nice pub, for all that. It is comfortable and has a very impressive bar including real ales and some specials you might not find elsewhere with any ease. If you haven't been for a while, it's worth giving it another whirl.
GREAT location. I cant think of any other bar in Manchester that sits right down next to the Irwell river. Floor to ceiling windows maximise the view of the river and the wildlife or rowers that pass by. Nice beer garden too which only gets the sun at certain time of the day because of all the tall buildings around but theres something about being close to the river that is quite special. Rare for a big post industrial city. Good selection of real ales and lagers on draught. Never seen it really busy, perhaps because its a little off the beaten track, but worth seeking out.
There isn't much water in Manchester, unless you fall in, you won't get much closer than this place. It's been under new management since the start of the year, decent beers, decent price, decent location. Give it a go on a nice day.
The bar food is excellent. Pork scratchings and Manchester egg recommended. Even the chips are inexplicably excellent. Plus riverside seating.
The True Grit beer was cloudy and hadn't been kept correctly. The Bar staff were very friendly though. At £3-70p a pint it was the most expensive pint I had that day !!
poor receiption - place was empty and came in for coffee but still asked to move when I sat down as it was 'reserved' - not a very nice corner here next to the gas canisters! lol - wont be back in a hurry
Great location and view of the Irwell, friendly staff and good beer. Somewhat pricey but the atmosphere and location make up for it.
