We ate here recently while staying close by. Love the new terrace for outside dining. We were seated inside and placed our order pretty quickly. Another couple, who came in after us, received and ate their starters before someone came out of the kitchen to apologise to us that they had run out of one of the starters we had ordered. We made another choice and then had another wait, probably an hour in total before receiving our starters. The food that we had was fine, but typical pub grub. Nothing fancy but tasted good. The decor is pleasant and the staff friendly. Would probably use again when in the area
Nice pub in a lovely location. A few things let down the overall experience. Had a Sunday roast and cutlery wasn’t provided we had to get our own. A cup of tea took 15+ minutes to arrive and the apple pie and custard came out of the kitchen cold. It wasn’t very busy either, so perhaps it comes down to the staff they employ who seem to have little clue about customer service.
Dogs welcome. Lovely beer from the famous Grainstore Brewery. Really well done food. Proper pie pastry. Plenty of parking if you wanted to walk before or after.
Stayed at attached campsite. Great pub, delicious food, good choice of beer and wine. Excellent service Olivia was outstanding and a really welcoming vibe. Good base for Rutland Water cycle etc
The pub is currently undergoing a refurbishment and should look great once finished. We booked ahead and were the only people dining on the night we were there. The staff were very friendly and chatty which we liked. The food was very good and well cooked. They also have a good selection of beers. I recommend their own local beer. We will definitely visit again after the renovations are completed.
It's a very lovely pub to eat and drink at and the staff are friendly. Although it took a little while for the food to come, it was worth it. Most likely due to it being busier than usual.
Stopped off for lunch on way home from holiday. Made very welcome by the staff and we were served very quickly. We had starters and mains. 2 prawn cocktails were much enjoyed, plentiful portion of prawns with a decent amount of sauce which went right to the bottom of the bowl. Also very much enjoyed was a bowl of the soup of the day, curried parsnip which was in the words of the recipient "absolutely lush". I had the calamari which was tasty and again a very good portion. Mains were 2 bowls of liver and onions with mash and veg, again very tasty, piping hot, liver was perfectly cooked, tender and no annoying stringy bits. Good selection of veg. Other mains were a falafel baguette and a roast pork and apple sauce baguette from the specials board. Again very tasty, big portions, piggy me had a side is chips too which were hot and tasty too. Four very satisfied diners.
Pub has been spruced up inside and is very pleasant but unfortunately food not up to the same standard. I had the roast beef baguette. Beef was fine but the baguette was a bought in part-baked one that didn’t look like it had been baked off fully in the pub oven. It was still very pale. A real shame as was expecting better. Service very average. Some fries missed off the order which seemed to be my fault and caused issues to put right. My friend’s fish and chips look great though.
Once again we had an amazing visit. The staff are so accommodating and friendly. We booked a Christmas meal and wow was it good x the quantity and quality of food was excellent. We were all full. I would certainly recommend the horse and jockey for a family meal or for a get together it caters for all. Thank you guys for a lovely meal again.
Stopped for a beer while cycling around the reservoir - much like everyone else who was there. Plenty of outdoor seating although not all in the shade if it's hot and sunny. Lots of building work going on which is noisy and dusty - also note that the toilets are temporarily sited across the road. Good place to stop which will be amazing when the building work is finished.
