Not really sure why I'm being asked to review a location as it's just a point on a map, but this place sits in a pleasant context. Have been here quite a few times in the past 1.5 decades. This time it didn't hit the sweet spot which is unusual as it normally does. Food was very rich and meat a little on the tough side. That's the unusual bit as it's normally unequivocally top notch. Menu was appetizing though and I'd have quite happily ordered any of the dishes. It's a lovely little place and everything else was up to scratch. Staff are always 'professionally friendly' and meaningful in their business. We received an excellent little introduction to each of the dishes brought to the table. Vegetarian options: We were presented initially with the main menu but on request were given both a vegetarian and vegan menus. The v&v menus were comprehensive but felt a little sidelined somehow.
RESTAURANT Classy. Quaint. Highest of quality. Friendly. I visited the Olive Branch following a recommendation from a friend and decided to take my partner for a birthday lunch just this week. Staff were really helpful and friendly, service was timed perfectly and the food was outrageously brilliant. My only regret is that I forgot to tip! Sorry! next time, i'll double up. Would certainly go again and would highly recommend!
The new kitchens were in operation as of today after being replaced due to a fire in December 2021. The dishes are even better than before which is saying something. Absolutely top class food, wine, deserts and service plus delicious fresh bread with olive butter. Cannot recommend enough. Go.Food: 5/5
I had booked a table for four at this well known restaurant anticipating a treat. It has a great reputation all round, and is highly praised in the local media for the quality of its food. Don't misunderstand me, this is a 'nice' pub but it really isn't anything special, in my opinion. My major gripe is the size of the portions in relation to the price. I suppose I should have realised, when I ordered the cod cheeks, that the quantity of fish would be small. But in fact, it was absolutely tiny. It came with mussels, the menu being strictly correct because there were just two mussels. Vegetables were extra. I know I should have felt honoured to be served such gastronomic treats, but I left feeling disappointed, slightly 'done', and hungry. My fellow diners shared my opinion. I'm sure it's all very Michelin star etc although it didn't seem so at the time, but don't waste your time here if you're hungry. It strikes me as a place which sees feeding you as a money making, ingredient sparing exercise rather than a true gastronomic pleasure. Sorry, OT, but there are several places in Rutland MUCH better.
Great service from the moment we walked through the door . This was our first visit ...we were surprised that some of the portion sizes were quite small. The food we did eat was good quality and really nice. Would go again and try different dishes.Food: 3/5
A fabulous overnight stay. Dinner was fantastic, we were both more than impressed with the quality and the service. Breakfast had ample choice with fresh fruits and juices and included freshly cooked options too.Recommended dishesBlack Pudding with Eggyolk and Curried Pickled Onion
Just a serious thankyou for our stay at your Beech House and Dinner and breakfast with you. Beech House was perfect for what we wanted, warm, cosy and beautifully ‘house kept’. Your skill is marrying what was genuinely excellent food and drink with the welcoming ambience of a country pub. It is a long time since I have eaten food with that depth of flavours and the wines were a perfect match. From booking in ,to the excellent breakfast , the welcome was professional, friendly and warm. Thanks to Vic for serving so well and without the obsequiousness often attached to this level of food. It was my birthday so the excellent peaty whisky was a bonus.! We loved it and will be back. Thanks again. David and Sheena
The most delightful stay at Beech House accompanied by a faultless dinner at The Olive Branch Pub. The food was delicious and the presentation worthy of any fancy city restaurant. Above all the service was seamless, highly attentive yet unobtrusive - a neat trick to pull off. Thanks to the entire team, James & SharonRooms: 5/5
We had a fabulous lunch for our wedding anniversary. Really well prepared and delicious food. Service was discreet and efficient. The room was cosy with an open fire. Would highly recommend.Food: 5/5
Long time customer. Food has kept getting better over the years and the genuine atmosphere makes it a great spot for dinner. Don't listen to the naysayers about portion sizes, they're spot on and the quality is like nothing around.
