Popped in out of the rain for a drink and a warm up. Bar had only 2 cask ales on one had a post it note on the hand pump. Pub was freezing. Everyone sitting around in coats as the heating wasn't on. Wood burner wasn't lit although there was a supply of logs next to it. Table was dirty and obviously hadn't been properly wiped after lunch. A great location but very poorly run. I know pubs are struggling but if you literally can't provide a warm welcome what's the point? It's just an insult to your patrons. We won't be back.
Lager was warmer than the seating area, which had a log fire which was not lit. Freezing cold inside the bar when 3c outside, every other local bar had a log fire on the go. Ladies WC hand dryer blows out cold air. Bartender did not seem happy to have paying patrons in his establishment. God knows what the food menu meant.
Pub/Bar review only: Service was fine, but coffee was warm not hot, glasses were dirty, toilets were terrible, water all over the floor and mould on the ceilings/walls. Wouldn’t return!Service: 4/5
Family and friends decided to go out for the afternoon so we went to Burford. Whilst out we stopped for drinks and nibbles. Reasonable prices service was ok a smile doesn't cost anything. The pub however was cold we all sat in jumpers and jackets on the day. Would visit again if in the area but would only do this if the sun was shining and was a bit warmer.
Me and my partner stayed at this hotel for a weekend break and as part of our adventure, to begin exploring the Cotswolds. We were not particularly satisfied with our stay here, having stayed in the "Robin" room, for the following reasons:- - Upon arrival, we made our way to the reception area through the car park. We walked in extremely excited and happy, to be met by a woman on the reception desk, who was not welcoming at all. We received no greeting, no conversation from her whatsoever, apart from asking the name and slapping the card machine straight in our faces. - Upon entry in to "Robin" we noticed that the room wasn't cleaned thoroughly or properly. There were tea-bag stains on the dressing table and what appeared to be crumbs on the floor. The bathroom also had a smell of damp to it. There were a few screws missing from various plug-sockets throughout the room and therefore, these were not secured properly, making plugging and removing chargers from these sockets difficult and dangerous. The window-stays were loose too, making the window vulnerable opened. The door handle from the outside was loose also. - The TV in "Robin" is mounted in a way where it doesn't really face the bed and makes viewing particularly difficult when lying down. There is no option to swivel this TV either. The area is particularly bad on phone signal, but the WI-FI in that room is practically non-existent, so you're forced to keep coming down in to the car park, just to check if anybody has called you, etc. This is something that can be sorted easily with WI-FI extenders. - The Thermostatic Radiator Valve looked snapped also and the radiator was constantly on at a high heat, making the room a unbearable at times. - Whilst we were at breakfast, a number of staff walked past and once again, just did not make us feel very welcome or want to greet us. We ordered our breakfast with some minor changes and waited over half an hour for breakfast to be brought to our table. When the breakfast arrived, the orders were slightly wrong and we had to chase for our toasts to be brought out, which were also wrong. Whist we were seated the ceiling began to leak right by the table that the fruit, yogurt and juices are situated. A member of staff eventually came and put a bucket down to collect the water and put some tea-towels on the floor to absorb the water. We were surprised to see that the food and drink content on the table WAS NOT moved to an alternative table, given that the leak through the ceiling probably containing bits of plaster, etc or replaced. Within minutes, the leak progressed and water was coming out from around the spotlights. There seems to be previous staining and cracks to the plaster, which means that this is probably an ongoing issue that they have not rectified. Overall, we feel that the price we paid £229.00 for 2 nights was excessive taking in to account the above, which is easily avoided and can easily be resolved. The hotel is located in a lovely and central area of Burford and "Robin" and the other areas of the hotel we saw were decorated well and our shower was great. The breakfast was lovely quality also. Definitely massive room for improvement here!
Stayed here for a wedding. I booked over a year ago, made sure they were aware that I was disabled. Spent the week before my stay emailing and calling and had no response. Finally got through to Andy 2 days before my stay. I reiterated that I was disabled and concerned about parking. He was very rude and no helpful at all. On my arrival I asked about parking to be told it’s first come first serve and have to find parking on the high street. As I was early, I knew that check in would not be possible and was told they will pop my luggage into my room. On arriving back from the wedding, my room was potentially the furthest away, and to top it off my luggage was not in my room. I then had to go downstairs no staff to find my bag was in a staff area. The room was dusty and the carpet had not been hoovered. The bed however was lovely and comfy.Although there was a lamp above the bed that was broken and dangling over the pillows. The woman serving breakfast was equally rude and literally knocked a whole pot of coffee all over me and was very dismissive and not at all apologetic. I asked a member of staff to speak with a manager. She promised I would receive a call which has not happened and hence why I’m now writing a review. I paid £140.00 for this room. And for them to make no effort to help with my disabilities is incredible in this day and age the negative attitude of people towards disability. Knowing I was coming a year ago i don’t understand how one parking space could not have been reserved. I have photos to show broken lamp and unhoovered carpets, if the manager would like to get in touch!
Very disappointing. For £140/ night I expect better. Checked in to find only one of 3 lights had lightbulbs in them, which to be fair they rectified after I raised the issue. Also notified staff the top of the toilet cystern was cracked through and showed them a photo I took. On the Sunday morning had no hot water coming through the shower even after leaving running for 10 mins. The room itself was ok, comfy bed but these other things need addressing if charging these rates.
We’ve stayed here previously which makes this stay particularly disappointing. I refer to room “Finch” for this stay, and to list: Really tiny room Very tired furnishings No dressing table or mirror my wife was appalled by this in particular Shower like a caravan Toilet dirty on arrival and smelled really badly, also would not flush effectively Sash window inoperable cords long gone I propped this up with an item of furniture. In conclusion: just don’t, we love Burford but this establishment really lets its customers down. Oh and by the way the room cost £110 Frankly I’d rather sleep in the car. You have been warned. For the proprietor of the pub, if you’d like to challenge any element of my review I’d be glad to chat.
We had a great stay here. The staff was friendly. Bar area was nice. The bed very comfortable. Car park small but we got a space. Went to thier second pub the Mermaid across the road and was a great friendly atmosphere with roaring fire. Only downside was the single glazed windows for noise but what can they do on a building that old and possibly listed. Andy the landlord was great and we will defo be staying again.
Popped in for sunday roast. Lovely food for a reasonable price. Excellent value for BurfordService: 4/5
