We had a Sunday Roast Beef and The Steak & Ale pie and we all agreed it was lovely! The beef particularly was of a very high quality. Soup of the day and Chicken wings for starter were also delicious. Great pub overall! :
We’re are staying at a guest house just up the road, Daffodil Cottage, lovely place, the guest visitors book is full of praise for this place so we thought it rude not to try it out!nWe visited on a Friday, booking is essential, even though we ate at 17.30 it was very busy with diners and drinkers!nWe were served very quickly with drinks and our food orders taken shortly after.nWe were a party of 3 adults and a child, the menu was extensive and varied, there were also specials to add to the choice. The children’s menu also had lots of choice.nnI ordered the steak and requested it to be rare, I always request this as I rarely get it, it’s usually a healthy medium. That was not the case this meal, it was indeed cooked rare and delicious, so nice to actually get what I asked for. The accompaniments were plentiful and the salad was a good size and varied.nThe other guests had the vegetarian moussaka and lamb kofta. All agreed the food looked amazing, the portion sizes substantial and it tasted delicious.nIt was great value for money, served in a timely manner and all the staff were attentive and helpful.nWe would definitely recommend this pub for great food, good atmosphere, friendly staff and family friendly.
Well, where do I start with this culinary masterpiece?nThe mashed potatoes were a triumph of modern convenience, tasting suspiciously like they’d taken the scenic route from a packet straight to my plate. Sticky, bland and utterly unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. The gravy was equally impressive if you enjoy warm brown water with a hint of disappointment.nThe vegetables bravely carried the meal on their shoulders. Fair play to them, they almost tasted like actual food.nAs for the Cumberland sausages, they certainly looked the part. Unfortunately, that’s where the performance ended. One bite confirmed they’d clearly been enjoying an extended holiday under a hot plate before being served.n£11.95 for these dainty portions and this level of “quality” is remarkable. Not every establishment can charge nearly twelve quid for something that feels like a school dinner on a bad day. Bravo.
The jewkle did pour, like an ecstatic torrent in the Garden of Eden. 5.7% of pure joy.nnA bit of hush, please, while we reflect on a public house of grandeur. Of import. Of glory.nnLike the obelisk that supports Lord Nelson, this imperious house of fun is buttressed by a brewery most fine. And England expects that every man does his duty.nnCome all ye boozers, to the Bitter End.
We visit here every year as on our dogs birthday weekend trip over to the Lakes. Food and service is fantastic. Always recommend booking as it has been very busy when we visit in an evening.
