Stayed here in the fall and everything about this hotel was fantastic. Great location- early walkable to most places- walked the royal Mile, up to Arthur's seat. The rooms themselves were lovely- had a room overlooking the city. The heated bathroom floors and towel warmer are a nice touch. Had breakfast downstairs daily and it was also great. Lastly, recommend stopping into the whiskey bar on site- very cool history and knowledgeable staff who made great recs on drinks.
As part of my retirement last year, I received a lovely gift, an overnight stay for two with a Seven Course Tasting Menu in Number One, and full Scottish Breakfast the following morning. Unfortunately we couldn't attend until a year later, and the hotel were more than helpful in arranging a stay just over a year later.nAnd from the moment of arrival yesterday, we recieved nothing but excellent, friendly service from every member of staff that we came into contact with. Nothing was too much trouble, and the professionalism came through from everyone without exception.nOur Executive Room with the Old Town View was really nice, and had been upgraded before we'd arrived.nNumber One for our Tasting Menu was a great experience and each and every course was delivered with a lovely explanation of what was being offered.nAnd to cap it off, our Breakfast in the morning was another great experience.nWe can't recommend this experience enough, and we'll definitely be back.
Booked our 13th Anniversary in this fabulous place, we where welcomed by Jack on reception. Who had mentioned that we had been upgraded to a room with castle views, we both were completely flabbergasted by this very generous offer. In addition when we entered the room, we were blown away by the furnishings, the size but the views from both windows, our window table was decorated with top quality macarons, fudge, chocolates, and a beautiful well presented plate of truffles. And 2 celebratory cards, and a personal letter written from the manager and his fabulous team. This place was like living in a dream, and it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for both of us. There was also a heart shaped rose petal on our king-size bed, it was beautifully displayed and it must have taken some time to prepare this wonderful addition. We also booked dinner, once again we were shown to our seats by our waiter Antony who informed us there was a bottle of champagne to be added to our meal, completely taken back from the ongoing service and generosity we received. Dinner was just exquisitely beautiful, and very delicious. Thank you so much to Mr Mcpherson, Jack, Aaron, Alan, and Murray. And to all the staff in the different departments. It was a dream come true
We had a very good experience at The Balmoral. I was surprised by the small size of the bathoom; however, our overall stay was pleasant. The room was tastefully decorated and clean. The service could have been better, particularly with the absence of a toothbrush and limited drinking water supplies, along with a somewhat unusual interaction with one of the receptionists. Nevertheless, the friendliness of the other staff, especially during breakfast, and the eagerness of the concierge to assist us were impressive. The location is absolutely fantastic—truly the best in Edinburgh, especially for first-time visitors and those on a short stay.
My wife and I had the best time during our stay at the Balmoral. Our room was nicer then we expected and the view was equally impressive. We had a bigger room but it had a coziness to it that we liked. I also have to comment on the bathroom. It was nice and roomy, but having an almost life size picture of Sean Connery in it, set it to a higher level of cool.nnThe staff were friendly and outgoing and they had an ease about them when talking to us. I felt like I was chatting with a friend.nnWe had room service for one of the evenings there. The food was delivered quickly by a friendly staff member and she set up the table for dining. Again, friendly and easy to talk to. The dinner was very well prepared and was delicious.nnWe took advantage of the morning buffet which had everything I was looking for.....including haggis!! We're from Chicago and you'll never find haggis at a restaurant there.nnAnyway....when we return for another visit to Edinburgh, it's The Balmoral for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
