I’m tempted to call Tam Shepherd's a hidden gem but it’s been in the same spot on Queen Street for over a century. I excitedly made my way down Queen St to find the shop where my Dad bought his first Robert Orban book and I wasn’t disappointed. Julie and Sarah own it now their family The Waltons have had it since 1965. Their Dad is a legend too and the three of us chatted passionately about our Fathers for a little while. Tam’s is a huge part of Glasgow’s history and if you’re anywhere close I urge you to pop in. And while you’re there pick up a traffic cone.
Famous Glasgow shop for tricks, jokes and costumes. Worth a visit if you're around Queen Street
A number of seasonal Halloween shops have popped up around Queen Street, but don’t be fooled - Tam Shepherds is the original and the best for tricks, costumes, fancy dress, and the like. Friendly staff, great selection, and better prices than anywhere in the area. Definitely recommend this place if you want to support a Glasgow institution!
Proper old school shop with a huge selection and friendly, knowledgeable service.
A real Glasgow institution. How many generations of kids have stood in wide eyed wonder at all the great tricks and toys in this shop? It has lost none of its charm either and is always well worth a visit with or without the kids!
I remember Mr Walton from the 1970s. I used to occasionally visit the shop with my father. I am pleased to say that the impeccable standards that I witnessed in my childhood are still very much in evidence today. Keep up the good work guys, Glasgow needs you. This shop is an emblem of Glasgow's past, present and future.
Excellent little store!! Staff are really friendly and helpful, always been excellent. The forst time I went there someone started doing some magic tricks with a deck of cards for me and I felt like a kid in a candy store again ... just pure amazement. I buy card decks, props for magic tricks, they even sell exccelent books to learn magic, from basic coin and card tricks to the more advanced stuff. My kids love it there also, frequently buying old school practical jokes like squirty lighters and fake poo's. Honestly this is a great little store that is a pleasure to go to whenever i am in town. Just don't try and swipe the money from the counter : 10/10 would recommend.
Took the hubby here and it was like taking my youngest to a toy shop. The staff were lovely and so helpful, it's lovely to see all independent magic shop that is reasonably priced. It was quite busy when we visited so I think it's popular and will be around for a while.
A great shop with nice staff. If you're looking for finishing touches to a Halloween costume, masks, wigs, costume headwear, props, jokes, gimmicks, magic tricks, playing cards or anything like that this is a good shop to go to. The website shop is very bad and hard to use and barely has any item on it but I prefer to shop in store anyway. I get a lot of my tricks there however there prices are a little more than the normal magic prices. But I would rather give my money to a local private shop. Ever since I was really young, every time we visited Glasgow's city centre I have always gone into Tam Shepards even if it is just for a look.
When you walk in it feels like you’re walking in to a Victorian curio shop, almost something out of a movie; the cabinets of inexplicable bits and pieces, the masquerade masks on the back wall, the long glass counter of magic tricks, the wood panelling. A truly fantastic shop and a unique shopping experience. The staff are friendly and helpful and they stock all sorts of magic and circus equipment as well as some fancy dress. Nice selection of cards from Bicycle and Theory11.
