I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Strawberry Duck for a Christmas pub lunch with my young child and partner, and it was an absolute delight! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm and friendly service by the staff. The ambiance of the pub was cozy and festive, with holiday decorations that put us in the spirit of the season. The food was simply delicious - I ordered the hanging chicken kebab and it was cooked to perfection, with juicy and tender chicken and a delicious array of vegetables. The portion size was generous, and we all left feeling completely satisfied. But what really made the experience stand out was the exceptional service. Our server was attentive and patient, making sure we had everything we needed and offering recommendations for drinks and dishes. The entire staff seemed to go above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful time, even catering to the needs of my young child. Overall, I highly recommend the Strawberry Duck for a delicious Christmas pub lunch. The food and service were top-notch, and we will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you for a memorable experience!
Really lovely pub/inn. Jason is a lovely, kind, quiet and calm host. The food was absolutely glorious, seriously good food. My bedroom was quiet, neat and tidy and the bed was so comfortable... seriously comfortable and I'm particular about mattresses. I spent a week at the Strawberry Duck and it was a real home from home.
Lovely lamb meal with our walking group. Very accommodating staff and warm, welcoming environment. The lamb was very tender and tasty with accompanying potatoes and vegetables. I really enjoyed the fudge cake dessert followed by lovely coffee. A really pleasant late lunch in a comfortable setting. Noteworthy details: Very pleasant waitress who handled some of the group's minor challenges with great professionalism.
Visited the Strawbury Duck for a Sunday Lunch and was unfortunately left largely disappointed. Our table ordered the steak pudding with thick cut chips and the deep fried chicken strips with thin cut fries. The steak pudding was reasonably nice if underwhelming, however the accompanying gravy was flavoursome and the nicest part of the meal. The chicken strips were seasoned well but were overcooked and slightly dry. The chips for both meals however were embarrassingly poor. The thick cut chips were pale, unseasoned and extremely undercooked to the point of being inedible. The thin cut fries whilst cooked thankfully were soggy and flavourless. I would rate the food 4/10 overall. £15 per meal is extremely overpriced for food of such poor quality. I could have ordered the equivalent meals from a local chippy and post night out dirty chicken takeaway and been more satisfied for a third of the price. I can only assume the positive food reviews are from people who live off frozen food and microwave ready meals as only then would I consider the Strawberry Duck an upgrade on home cooking. On a positive note the decor of the pub was nice with an old rustic charm. I would recommend visiting for a post walk drink but only on a full stomach.
Excellent lunch with my husband, I had the gammon and he had the lamb, both were superb but the proper chips with the gammon were the star of the show! Portions are extremely generous, even down to the slice of lemon in the coke, usually it's a sad little sliver of lemon, but not here. Parking: Small car park, maybe 15 spaces, right out the front. The lane to get to it is narrow but passable in any size car, including an estate, you'd only struggle with a van Dietary restrictions: There is a specific gluten free menu.
Staff were all really great during our visit - but the food was dreadful, across the board - really disappointing. Not a single redeeming dish from a table of 9 people. Really a shame because it's a lovely place and again the front of house staff were awesome.Food: 1/5
We Absolutely Loved the Strawbury Duck, In a Beautiful place, Fantastic Food , Very polite and Helpful Staff, Our Room was Teal.... Very Comfortable and, Close to a Reservoir, When we had an Early morning Walk, before Breakfast... Although it was Raining , it was Very Atmospheric and you can only imagine how lovely it would be there on a Summer Evening.... Thank you so much ...
A lovely gastro pub with rooms above. The food is always amazing, inexpensive but very good quality. Portion sizes are generous too. We have stayed in two of their rooms and by far the best so far is "Mallard" a massive room with ensuite bath, toilet and shower over. Will definitely be back again time after time.Food: 5/5
I liked the starter and the drinks. The toilets were revolting. You have to wee in the bucket and they don’t get rid of the wee so it is all in a bucket. The chicken southern fried was burnt and flavourless and the chips were soggy and bland. Wouont return as it was my first time! Avoid this place at all costs! Room where we sat was good though.
Exceptional food and great service. Visited for the first time this evening despite living locally. Friendly staff and reasonable wait times. Definitely worth a try
