I have been wanting to go here since it opened. Travelled all the way from Australia for a wedding and finally got the chance.nnIt did not disappoint. Great food, drinks, vibe, fit out and service.nnGreat spot for a boozy lunch with friends or a romantic/funky date night.nn100% recommend visiting here. Eat the whole menu.
I’ve been a fan of Thomas Straker’s YouTube channel and Instagram for a long time, so visiting Strakers had genuinely been on my bucket list. I’d been talking about going all year, and my girlfriend surprised me with a booking for my 30th birthday, so I went in with a lot of excitement and reasonable expectations.nnThe vibe inside is genuinely nice. Great atmosphere, good music at a level where you can still have a proper conversation without shouting, and an overall energy that feels modern and lively. It’s the kind of place where the room itself sets the tone for a fun night.nnThe food, while decent, didn’t reach the level I’d hoped for. Nothing was bad, ingredients tasted fresh, everything was clearly cooked with care, and a few dishes were definitely enjoyable but very little stood out as exceptional. It was good, not great. Fine, but not memorable. And for somewhere with this level of hype, that’s the part that surprised me the most.nnWhat really held the experience back was the pricing. For roughly £100 per person, the value just wasn’t there. Portions weren’t particularly filling, and it’s the sort of place where you could comfortably leave and still be hungry, not what you’d expect at £200 for two people. You’re paying premium prices without getting a premium experience to match, and that imbalance became more noticeable as the meal went on.nnService was okay. Not rude, not inattentive, just a bit hands-off and not especially warm. You got the sense that everything was running efficiently, but without much personal touch.nnBecause it was my 30th, my girlfriend made a note of it when booking. At every other birthday dinner I’ve had, restaurants usually take a small moment to make it feel special. At Strakers, the gesture was essentially a £6 tiny scoop of ice cream with a candle stuck in it which I chose and paid for, it wasn't on the house. It was fine, and at least they did something, but it felt bare minimum. And it did make me wonder: if I hadn’t ordered that ice cream, would anything have been acknowledged at all?nnThere were highlights. The veal tartare was genuinely nice. The liver pâté was fantastic. The Cornish potatoes were cooked perfect. But taken as a full experience, it didn’t quite justify the cost or live up to the anticipation that had built up from following Straker’s content online.nnOverall, the more I reflect, the more I realise the night was good but not great and definitely not at the price point. Glad I got to tick it off the list, but I wouldn’t rush back.
Long time bucket list restaurant that didn't disappoint! Been a fan since the butter videos a few years back so happy we made it!nnInteresting and modern card, wish we could've tried more.nSea bass crudo was the best, close followed by veal tartare. Killer flatbread, tuna, scallops and langoustines.nnWill definitely come back and recommend to friends visiting London!nBig up to our young waiter as well who comes from the same place as the caviar.nnEveryone should go here, sit on the counter facing the kitchen and watch these young guys smash it!nnLots of lovenOscar & Ida
My third visit here, and the food continues to impress.nWould I return? Absolutely. Would I recommend it? Definitely.nnYes it’s pricey, but the quality speaks for itself.nnWhere there’s room for improvement: drinks service was slow throughout the evening, and we found ourselves chasing staff a few times, apparently the bar can get “backed up.” The music inside is also on the louder side, which makes conversation a bit challenging. That said, the warm service and outstanding seasonal dishes more than make up for it.nnTip: go for the starters over dessert unless you opt for the doughnuts.nStandout dishes: the mussel flatbread, green beans, and the chicken.
Food overall is great, flavourful and great produce used. However, I find Strakers overpriced for what it offers overall. Chefs counter seating is bad, not great ventilation and rather hot. Place is small and if you get seated in the back it’s definitely not worth the 100£ pp minimum.
