Stoke Mandeville Hospital

Story

Stoke Mandeville Hospital is a large National Health Service (NHS) hospital in Aylesbury, England. It is part of Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. The hospital's National Spinal Injuries Centre is one of the largest specialist spinal units in the world, and the pioneering rehabilitation work carried out there by Sir Ludwig Guttmann led to the development of the Paralympic Games. Mandeville, one of the official mascots for the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in London, was named in honour of the hospital's contribution to Paralympic sports.HistoryIn the early 1830s the village of Stoke Mandeville was badly affected by cholera epidemics that swept across England. A cholera hospital was established on the parish border between Stoke Mandeville and Aylesbury. It was founded with monies provided by both parishes, but was built separately from both places as cholera was very contagious and the inhabitants were anxious to avoid infection.By the start of the twentieth century the hospital had developed into an infectious diseases hospital, treating all infections, not just cholera. However the town of Aylesbury was growing, and the distance between the town and the hospital was getting smaller, and before long people with infectious diseases could no longer be treated at the hospital because the risk of infecting the local community was too great.

My mother came her last night. Scans and x rays done. Blood test. Doctors took time to speak to us. Never rushed us. Physio lady sue was fab. Was very happy with level of care she got
Been in the hospitals often with my child .nNever came across with so rude nurses , being all day on the phone and ignoring us . Talking rude to old person when he was alone and while their cater was there was being kind and nice .nMy husband waiting for his allergy pills since morning and never gave it to him . We had to take the prescription and buy it by ourselves after waiting until 4 pm . Unbelievable!!!nBurns unit , Ward 11 is a joke !!
My husband was sent to a and e by his GP because of concerns with inflammatory markets in blood, fever and pain. He spent 10 hours on a chair in serious pain and was admitted at 3 am and in a bed by 10 am so 15 hours of sitting in pain and internsl bleeding. The nurse shouted to the while waiting area that his CT scan needed urgent review and we waited for 2 hours until a doctor explained why. Broken toilets, dirty, a rolm eith what looked like comfy chairs just left unused. Constantly talking about lack of staff. It is a dreadful place and I would sboid like the plague. They also seem to lose medical notes on their various systems. this us beyond ineffective it feels scary and dangerous. Not like 24 hours in A&E!
Their Emergency Department was useless for me. On 27th October, I came there with a cough, pain in my left shoulder in hindsight, it was an onset of pericarditis, choking cough, could not control my breathing, when speaking I had difficulty breathing out words, I had had that cough for about 5 weeks. They did an X-ray, checked my blood for a clot, found nothing and said I was recovering. In Cromwell Hospital in London, 3 weeks later I found that my C-reactive protein was 96. On 10th December I was taken by ambulance to Wexham Park Hospital, where they found that I had pericardial effusion 1cm thick and pleural effusion. I had to stay there 13days. But Stoke Mandeville Hospital still denies that I was seriously ill at the time.
Went to A and E last night with husband. He had chest pains, shortness of breath and low temperature. Arrived at 2345. Seen by doctor at 5am and out the door at 5:05.nnAbsurd double system of triaging meant we waited to get observations done, then saw a triage nurse, then told to wait for paperwork before going to A and E. Got to A and E about 1am. Saw another triage nurse, then waited hour and half for the bloods and ECG he needed and then waited for the doctor. Only the second triage nurse introduced himself out of all personal we saw. The doctor used inappropriate medical jargon for lay people and was cold. No updates on wait times or apologies/explanations. Everyone expects to wait in A and E but this was ridiculous and two triangles are wholly unnecessary.nnWill go elsewhere next time.nnAvoid like the plague.
