Visited at the beginning of October 2022 at we were staying nearby. Had a meal in the restaurant mains only and a couple of drinks. Very nice pub and restaurant. Traditional decor clean and tidy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was very good and tasted great. Prices on food and drinks were reasonable. Definitely worth a visit if your in the area.
Just called for lunch.5 of us and Rocky the dog. Very friendly barman lovely food. Nice and clean pub with 2 open fires. We had BLT soup cheese wraps and chips. All nice and fresh. Worth a visit. Parking: Loads of parking
The Sportsman has a lovely view across Troutbeck. The menu has a wide choice of home cooked food with generous portions at a great price. Equally the same with drinks, the wine is cheaper than in other pubs/restaurants we have been to recently. The service is excellent and the food is served quickly. We had a lovely meal and will definitely be back again. Vegetarian options: A nice selection of freshly prepared meals.
Just had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch at The Sportsman. One of us had roast beef and the other had lamb. It was cooked to perfection and plenty of it. The Yorkshire puddings were spot on and the veg was fresh. All in all the best Sunday lunch we’ve had in a very long time. Delicious!
We have just visited The Sportsman Inn, we have had a fantastic meal steak and ale pie absolutely bursting with steak and so tender, would definitely recommend a visit.Food: 5/5

Recently opened again after Covid and made to feel welcome by the new landlord, looking to extend service but asked to add following. Open at the moment Thursday to Sunday, not hot food, at the moment, only serving cold food. Recently opened a camping site, £25 per night for camping vans on hard surface, £18 per night for tents in the field. Amenities are limited, but welcome to use the services of the pub. So if travelling along A66 and need a safe place to stay and looking for a comfortable place then give them a try, do phone before you go to ensure they have space.
I have been here twice in the last 2 weeks, both times with my mum. Both visits were late afternoon/early evening and as it is in the winter season, it wasnt very busy. I wanted to leave a review as the first thing I was delighted about was the menu - normal pub food! So many places have pretentious menus, but not here. We tried the soup, Scampi, Cumberland Sausage and Lasagne. Every meal was excellent quality and the portions were very generous. I will definitely return and I will be very interested to see how they manage to maintain this level of quality in the summer season when I expect they will be extremely busy. Pay a visit if you get the chance.
The best food you will find, so tasty, big portions, lovely beers, very friendly, defo worth trying here! Kid-friendliness: Great with kids also Parking: Loads of space
Delicious food and drink, well priced. Great atmosphere and staff very welcoming.
