Needed a dog friendly stop on a Scottish trip - pleased to have found the Strickland. Very friendly staff - nice food and breakfast. Room was large and ok, it’s an old building so has some ‘quirks’!
Warm welcome and above and beyond! I thought I was going to arrive at 8:30pm but due to weather and other issues it was just after 10pm. I had called to let them know and see if I could get food and they did! Thank you so much for looking after me I really appreciate it!
We were here on our short stay in Penrith and the place was amazing. The food specially the meat pie was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes are also great. The staff was really friendly and gave us great suggestions. The ambiance is also great and all in all highly recommended!
Really disappointing. Started off well, friendly greeting. However food took quite a while to arrive despite being only people in the pub. My particular dish tasted nothing like description on menu "recommended by Simon Rogan". Having checked with the waitress that I had been served the right dish and told recipe had been changed, and acknowledging that it was not to my taste, and had been offered an alternative, I was amazed that I was still charged full price for the dish even though I had left half of it. Won't be returning or recommending any time soon. Such a shame, was really looking forward to finding a decent local pub.
Easter Sunday lunch. The chicken supreme seems misnamed. It consisted of a piece of deep fried chicken. Accompanied by inedible roast carrots…black. Overcooked fondant potato. Soggy rubbery greens and ju that could have been anything. After trying each item it was returned to the kitchen. The manager did apologise and took it off the bill A very unedifying experience which I will not be repeating.
What a lovely place the food and staff are amazing the locals are friendly and welcoming and the rooms are clean and comfortable we have stayed here on a few occasions and will keep returningRooms: 5/5
A lovely evening spent here. Fair prices for both food and drink. Very friendly staff. We were camping nearby, absolutely raining so hard the barman offered us a lift back to the site. Thank you so much for the hospitality. When I'm in the area again I'll definitely call in.
Really good food, excellent well kept cask beers The staff working on the bar and table service were both above excellent. Very friendly, polite and really efficient both working hard Will definitely call in again
Visted here again last time Oct 2021 and the food was just as awesome as last time. Had the pie and mash and helped down with a local ale.
Such a fantastic local pub, the service was amazing, the staff were so friendly. Dog friendly place with beautiful cosy log fires. The food was beautiful, all locally sourced and reasonably price. Would highly recommend visiting here.
