Definitely the worst of all Bikram studios in London. Unfortunately I have to agree with the negative reviewers about the owner. Most of the other staff at the reception desk are anything but welcoming or friendly. Interestingly enough, it also attracts a certain kind of audience... The owners have yet to understand and practise good customer service, including dealing with people in a friendly and accommodating manner and making everyone feel comfortable. Nothing applies to this studio. It's a shame because the studio itself is one of the better ones in London. Except for the showers, they are miserable - but the entrance area, changing rooms and the studio itself are good.
I was visiting London for a few days and found this this studio online. I found it to be immaculate and very luxurious. There's lots of space to move around at the entry and in the locker rooms. The temperature was perfectly controlled and the room did not have that typical 'yoga smell'. I had an excellent class with the strict dialog. From what I witnessed, the new students seemed to also be well cared for and monitored. If you are a Bikram yogi/yogini, you will love this studio, but I believe a new student will have a good experience here. It was a treat - now I'll have to tease my home studio.
A very good bikram yoga studio with studios conveniently located in Soho and Victoria. The Soho studio is easily accessible from Great Portland St, Warren St and Oxford Circus tubes so after sweating it out for 90 minutes in 40 degree heat, there are plenty of options to rehydrate and refuel. Or do a spot of shopping!
While I understand Bikram Yoga is one of the more commercial ways to practise, this particular studio is so bloody-mindedly after the customer's money without attempting to provide anything like a welcoming atmosphere or customer service that it actually makes the overall experience more stressful than not practising at all. The studio owner, Lorraine, is so rude that it would be comical, were it not for the exceptional amount of money it costs to practise for a 90 minute session. Jump on the train to London Bridge, or Highbury, or simply go to a local Pret. Any of these alternatives are infinitely preferable to going into this dingy, hostile environment.
Closed down despite being listed as current. Looks like all the negative reviews left their mark. These establishments forget that word of mouth is either your best marketing tool or your worst enemy. I was interested until I read an astounding number of negative reviews. Since Bikram was publicably discredited as a total Sex Nazi a lot of these hot yoga places have have divorced from his stringent practice and halved the number of posturesto make more money be warned...you will not get the same results....should be 26 postures in 90 minutes
I'm currently on a 21 day trial. Went to the Victoria studio on Friday evening and was astounded by the unwelcome environment. The blonde lady behind the desk seemed very pleased with herself, she seemed to take some delight in the fact that I couldn't quite get my head around the rules - need a passport to get my membership card, £10 minimum when paying on card, £2 for water, £1.50 for a towel, pound coin for the locker. No smile, just this air of superiority. I was putting her out, I felt as if my stupidity was all very inconvenient. The worst thing though was even though I've been practising on and off for a few years, the place where I was in the studio was unbearably hot, I couldn't take part in any of the lying down postures because the heat was incredible. Even after lying down for 10 minutes I could not cool down. After desperately pouring water on myself, the teacher shouted 'there's no need to shower yourself.' I tried to explain that the part of the room where my mat was, was closed off between two mat stations and so there was no air wasn't circulating but he ignored me. I know that you're discouraged from leaving the room during a class so I stuck it out, unable to do anything because of the heat. The teacher kept making pointed remarks saying 'everyone should join in this one' to which I literally couldn't as I felt very unwell. I must reiterate that I've done Bikram loads of times and it's never happened in another studio. I'm ashamed to say I lay there and cried. No one asked if I was OK although the teacher came and high fived me at the end. I tried to explain about the ventilation again but he just walked off. The place is really unfriendly and it was a rotten experience. When I left I was desperate to get out of there no one said goodbye or even acknowledged me leaving. Make up your own mind if you like, but I wish I didn't have to even give it one star.
