I agree with a lot of the negative reviews of this studio: it is disgusting. It looks run down and unhygienic - hairs always in the shower, smelly studio and changing rooms, old looking yoga mats... The worst thing about this studio is definitely the rude staff. They always look like you are bothering them and lack any grace or warmth. You dedicate a lot of time and money to practise Bikram yoga but the surly staff and overall appalling cleanliness of the studio has put me off spending more money in this place. Shame because the location is ideal. Get your act together Sohot Yoga.
So sorry to say that after an year of a rolling membership I had to quit because I couldn't cope with the unhygienic environment anymore. The teachers at this studio are amazing, that and the close location to home was the only reason I kept coming, hoping that they will change the flooring or re-decorate the walls, or encourage fellow yogis to be mindful to other fellow yogis with their sweat and habits. I couldn't cope with the lady on Saturdays 10am class who kept blowing her nose with her bare hand and throwing everything on the studio floor, and I couldn't cope with the other lady who squeezed her sweat soaked towel after 10am Saturdays classes on the studio floor, every single time. which I have never seen been cleaned after classes. I was hoping I will stop noticing those people or habits of people, but teachers and staff didn't get involved, people just keep doing what they are doing. I realised I do not enjoy my practise and I should try and find somewhere that fits my expectations for relaxing 90min.
Worst yoga experience ever! The worst thing is the staff, very rude. Especially the receptionists, not welcoming nor creating a peaceful environment which you'd expect at a yoga place. It was rather hostile. Furthermore, the teachers are unequipped to teach people who are still learning, I have experienced classes in which students were laughed at and yelled at. Aside from the people, the yoga room itself is to small for the amount of people they allow in the classes. During the class you often find yourself touching someone else or peoples sweat dripping onto you. Lastly, the place does not feel clean, it smells terrible which I understand when people sweat in the yoga practice room, but the whole place smell gross Overall, horrible experience, I would never go back.
I have been practising at this studio since 2011 and can honestly say it is one of the best Bikram yoga studios in London. The teachers are fantastic; the heat in the studio is consistently HOT; the facilities are very clean – and DO NOT smell. If you want a good hot stretch, I would highly recommend Sohot Bikram.
I love the place and don't understand the negative reviews. They dismay me. The staff are not rude, quite the opposite. I’ve always found them encouraging, helpful and welcoming. It has a friendly, intimate, yet professional atmosphere and is as clean and hygenic as a studio that has hundreds of sweaty bodies passing through its doors each week can be. It's not strongly smelly - apart from the blast of essential oils that refreshingly waft through the place. Yes, there is occasionally mess when changing after class, but people can be messy, especially when stunned after a strong class. It's never dirty. I'm a clean freak and a germophobe. if it was as people have said in recent reviews on here I woudn't go. As for the other students, there is a clear list of 'rules' posted both on the website and near the main entrance. It's not the studios fault if people don't follow them, and the examples given recently on here are not something I have ever come across at Sohot. The teachers are extremely experienced Yogis, teaching consistently and to a high standard. Add in it's regulated heat, air filtration and fresh oxygen pumped in each class unique to Sohot, it's the best. The sheer number of regulars can't be wrong.
Avoid! This studio is disgusting. This has become the most unbearably smelly unhygienic studio I have attended. The receptionist and owner is rude and very unresponsive to the issues. The studio is so badly managed - some of the customers even come in stinking, with terrible dirty habits even before class even starts and that just reflects the culture and standards of the studio.The studio has got so much worse in recent months and the management is unfriendly, uncaring and are doing nothing about the hygiene issues. I was seriously afraid of catching some disease there. I now attend another studio. Shop around, there are many other better studio options.
This studio has lovely teachers but unfortunately the worst owner/manager imaginable. There was a mistake made by one of the members of staff regarding my account, I had wanted to sign up for a monthly subscription which must actually be done on-line but I was given the wrong info. Another member of staff assured me that as it was an error on their side she had no doubt the owner would resolve it once back from holidays. When this April came back not only did she not resolve it but she came looking for me to pay the classes individually at a rate of 20 pounds each I practice everyday and the subscription I originally inquired for is 89 pounds a month. After several exchanged emails I must say I have never come across someone who is so rude and disinterested in customer care, she even threatened to pursue me legally if I spoke of the incident on-line. BE WARNED, GREAT CLASSES, AWEFUL MANAGEMENT.
The teachers were fantastic! I really noticed a difference in my physique and ability after just a couple of weeks- really attentive instructions and good size classes. The smell is quite bad though- it really does smell like feet in class and ladies showers could do with a little spritz but other than that - excellent
I've actually had quite good experiences until last week. So I wasn't sure how to rate it. Last week Sunday, 21 June, the teacher did not turn up to the 10am class. We were informed that he was going to be late by 30-45 minutes. So some of us started practice on our own. 45 minutes later another teacher turned up and insisted on teaching an express class - which only 2 people wanted to do. The rest of the class, 16 people wished to continue their practice rather than start the series again. So the class split into two. Nothing good about this story, aside from the people trying to make the best of a crappy scenario. When I I believed, reasonably asked for a refund of the class I was informed that they are not able to do this because I stayed for 90 minutes and used the facilities. Hmm. Meanwhile, I thought I was paying for an actual class with a teacher and a bit of zen in my life. None of which happened that morning.
Having spent several great years at Sohot, enjoying the fabulous teachers, I finally encountered the infamous April, who has been celebrated across tripadvisor and various other review sights for her questionable customer service. Personally I just saw a very fragile ego, and slightly myopic outlook to customer service. Sadly she made a series of presumptions and was then unable to admit fault. I suggested that I would try another studio on my return from holiday, so she put a ban on my attendance before my class packs were complete. She made no attempt to apologise. And did not inform me of what she did, so I only found out at the studio itself. This could have been very embarrassing. When challenged on this, she presented a situation to suggest that I had 'changed my mind'; rather than answering my questions as to why she placed the ban and why she didn't even inform be about the ban. She ignored my direct questions and asked in two seperate emails if I 'now wished' to use my classes, so she could lift the ban. An imperious administrator, perhaps I should have simply begged? What is difficult to believe, is the the management actually allow "April" to get away with this. I am still considering the possibilities here.
