A fantastic meal at Sketch, The Gallery. The space is stunning, thoughtfully designed and adorned with contemporary artworks, turning dining into a full sensory art experience.nnThe chilled scallop starter was good; a touch of yuzu would add bright acidity. The prawn course was excellent. The plaice main was well cooked, though its sauce could have more depth. The lamb chop was outstanding.nnAs a Chinese diner, I was pleasantly surprised to see a traditional bamboo steamer at the table. Both bottles of wine paired wonderfully with the food. We followed the server’s dessert recommendation and enjoyed it.nnWe stayed at the bar after dinner for a wine guessing game. The glass we tasted was stunning, despite the £100 price. But enjoyed the process
Came here today for drinks and a cake.nThe hazelnut paris brest cake was superb. It tasted fresh and lovely. Ideal between two people.nIts beautiful in the cafe area, comfortable and eclectic. The frizzante sparkling is nice too, complemented the brest.nMake sure you see and observe the other areas of the restaurant as they are also beautiful and the toilets. Sketch is a wonderland.nFriendly and nice service.
We had afternoon tea at The Gallery. Excellent atmosphere & great live music. The service was excellent as well. I think this is what you pay for. I really enjoyed the violin performances & music selection.nnIf it was just for the food, I would say it’s overpriced. The sandwiches and cakes taste good, but I wouldn’t pay 100+ pounds for them. I would highlight the smoke salmon sandwich, because I don’t usually like smoke salmon, but this one was actually quite good. I also don’t like sponge cakes, but I did really like this one. The sponge was almost like a financier, buttery and tasty. The scones were soft and nice. Some of the bread of the sandwiches was a bit dry, although I don’t mind that.nnWe couldn’t finish the cakes. It was too much. We had almost half of them to go.nnThe biggest disappointment was the teas. I like my teas quite mild, but these were completely bland. I paid an extra 5 pounds for the Nepali cherry blossoms white tea and it was just hot water, with a light marzipan/almond smell. No cherry blossoms smell. If you left it long enough, then you’d get a slight taste of bitter almonds.nnThe black teas weren’t black… Only the oolong tea tasted like oolong tea.nnIf I come again, I would go for regular food instead of afternoon tea.
A really lovely experience. The venue is beautiful and the service was excellent. It felt very special, great for an occasion. The afternoon tea was lovely, the sandwiches weren’t particularly to my taste but thoroughly enjoyed the pastries and tea service. It was expensive but worth it for a special treat.
