In January we booked a stay in one of these lodges for our Summer holiday. The hot tubs were not installed at the time but we were quoted a price and reassured that they would be in place for our arrival in 7 months time. We contacted the owners in February with a query but got no answer. When the rest of the balance was due we made contact with the owners again to confirm all was well with our booking as we had not heard anything from them. None of our messages were replied to, neither were text messages. Phone calls were answered by James who was really unhelpful and couldn't wait to get us off the phone asking if we had paid extra for the hot tub and saying he would message us later with confirmation that the booking was as agreed. He never messaged back until HomeAway contacted him for the 3rd time. When he did, he suggested that a hot tub had never been confirmed at point of booking, which I can assure you it was. Given that the main focus of our holiday was to go walking and exploring the area with the dog and family during teh day and relaxing in the hot tub later on we were sure to book accommodation with this included. I'm disappointed in the customer service we received and I think James' attitude towards us when we called him is disgraceful. The only thing I am thankful to the owners for is the return of my deposit and the fact I don't have to deal with him again. My advice would be think about whether the stress and the risk of loosing your holiday is worth it before you risk booking with these people. I also note that James has written himself a very positive review a year ago posing as a customer/traveller using his lodges. Very dishonest.

The lodge itself was neat and clean with spacious patio, beautiful finishing touches to the décor. However, with a lodge sleeping 6 you would expect equipment to serve 6, but things were missing. Plus equipment for self catering purposes a little sparse. I.e wine glasses but no corkscrew, no scissors, serving bowls, etc, etc. These little things could make a big difference to your stay. Plus, upon arrival it felt like the owners/managers had forgotten they had guests coming as the lodge didn't seem ready. Requests for basics (like towels) needed to be made. Additionally, frustrating to arrive and find there is a jacuzzi, but be advised notice was required before your arrival, if you wished to use it. The lodges are surrounded by woodland, but somehow, when the sun shone, it still manage to shine on the patio. The lodges are quite close to Bosley Locks, but also quite close to the train lines. I think the woodland may be a natural sound barrier, as the trains coming through were audible but not too loud.

First Class stay at Shallow Lane Lodges. 5 of 5 The development is brand new and you can see the quality time an effort that has been put into it. The lodges are impeccably finished throughout. The owners made sure we were happy with everything and pointed us to some lovely country pubs for food and drink. The Peak District is 3-4 miles away and there are plenty of small Cheshire towns to explore. The lodges are very light and airy and every last detail has been thought about. The title does not lie as these truly are Luxury lodges in a wonderful setting. We will be booking again and inviting more guests later on in the year. First Class
