Story

Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is one of only four dedicated children’s hospital trusts in the UK and provides integrated healthcare for children and young people, including community and mental health care as well as acute and specialist services.

We see children from 0-16 in most cases and in some cases up to 18.

We provide a full range of services for residents of Sheffield and South Yorkshire as well as specialised services for patients from further afield.

The Children's Hospital Charity exists to make an extraordinary hospital even better.

We keep our specialist services special; providing the best equipment your money can buy, opening new facilities and funding vital research to change lives tomorrow.

We make the clinical more comfortable; transforming the hospital space and adding the little touches that make a big difference to families.

Together with all our supporters and staff, we do it for the kids.

I have spent the last 2 and a half years in and out of Wards 3 and 4 - I have cried, shouted, laughed and cried even more, but honestly, this hospital has supported me through some of the lowest times in my life. The nurses and support workers, especially on Ward 4, are SO lovely and funny. There were so many staff who went above and beyond to make the other patients and I smile - thank you to the staff who braided my hair, sat with me even when they didn’t have to, made me laugh, encouraged me, were vigilant and truly set me up for what was ahead of me. Many staff genuinely tried to understand mental health and EDs. I am so grateful. The play specialists on Ward 4 go above and beyond to make patients’ admissions easier - there has never been a moment where they’ve let us go bored! The housekeepers are amazing and so hardworking. Back to the point of being vigilant - staff always picked up on unhealthy behaviours as well as unhealthy dynamics between patients and put a stop to them. They do much better than some mental health hospitals. Thank you to some of the doctors in outpatients who listened to me and helped me find solutions to my physical health issues. Thank you to those who look after my younger sister and manage her treatment effectively. Thank you to the staff in A&E who never made me feel bad during very vulnerable moments, no matter how many times they’d seen my face. I do have to say, however, that once, when I was presenting with mental health related difficulties, a receptionist said “we have to prioritise people who are ACTUALLY unwell”, which is very unnecessary and ignorant. The hospital is clean, easy to navigate, nicely decorated and very colourful appropriate for a children’s’ hospital and there are many facilities, such as a Costa Coffee, 2 independent shops, public toilets, a WHSmith and a café. I would highly recommend this hospital, although the staff need to be payed more for the crap they deal with, especially on Ward 4.
My son had an operation in this hospital. They stitched up his upper lip. The doctors are excellent, the care and food are excellent. The only thing was that we had to wait a very long time from 11 pm to 4 am we waited for the child to be put in the ward. In general, the doctors' attitude towards patients is excellent inside the operating room.
Absolutely amazing place. Won't be taking my children anywhere else from now on. They've removed a foreign body from my daughters eye every staff member has been so polite and accommodating, we've been made to feel at ease and are leaving super happy.
My son is having a operation here. Very good hospital.nOne of the greeters 'Chrissy' went above and beyond for us.nThank you.nnSo we've just spent four, days here on ward 1. Thank you to the guy who took my son down to theatre and calmed me after I struggled to keep it together. You made the four hour wait in surgery less stressful. I remembered your kind words and it made a difference.nnCannot fault this hospital. My son doesn't want to leave...! He loves the playroom. He was never bored. Staff/volunteers go above and beyond to keep kids happy. Thank you to the people like the volunteer Mel who was in the playroom.nWe stayed in one of the bays and the pull down bed for me was surprisingly comfy. The room is spotless. Lots of space. Plenty of storage.nnI saw another review critizing parent meals. Obviously if you're not a nursing mother you don't get meals provided. Same at every hospital I've been in. But there is a wonderful charity who have stocked up the freezer in the parents room. All they suggest is a voluntary donation of a pound.nThere are also food places on site and a co-op at the bottom of the street.nnThank you all staff. My son received compassion and kindness. You made what I expected to be a tough stay after his kidney removal, very straightforward and stressfree. The only niggle was whilst in theatre, the system was to call us on our mobiles and I lost signal downstairs. I had to go back and sit in recovery area just in case..... But that was a tiny tiny niggle. I think the pagers would have probably worked better.nnOh and thank you to the therapy dog who my son enjoyed the company of. Kiera I believe! That was a nice surprise..
My son was admitted on Sunday from Calderdale after an accident resulting in a very rare injury to his vocal cords!nnMr Tibourne and his team member who we don’t know his name as a family we can not thank you enough for your care you provided to our little boy! You was so reassuring and filled us with confidence and also helped to ease our minds with this injury been so rare.nWe will never be able to thank you enough you went over and above to come and speak to us about the procedure and include Harry in his care. Your care and skills were incredible you instantly put our minds at ease. We are so lucky to have received this outstanding care within the NHS nnThank you to all the nursing staff who give support to us as a family. A specialnmention for nurse ellie on ward 2 you was so kind and compassionate and had such a professional bed side manner nothing was never to much and supported us in a difficult time.nnThank you to all the ward staff who helped us whilst harry was an inpatient, the teacher who cooked pizzas with Harry and the play worker who brought a Nintendo switch.nnOur local hospital is an hour away and we could not recommend Sheffield children hospital enough it felt like a 5 staynnThank you so so much for caring for Harry in such a worrying time for us we will never forget the care Harry received and we will never be able to thank you enough
