Story

Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is one of only four dedicated children’s hospital trusts in the UK and provides integrated healthcare for children and young people, including community and mental health care as well as acute and specialist services.

We see children from 0-16 in most cases and in some cases up to 18.

We provide a full range of services for residents of Sheffield and South Yorkshire as well as specialised services for patients from further afield.

The Children's Hospital Charity exists to make an extraordinary hospital even better.

We keep our specialist services special; providing the best equipment your money can buy, opening new facilities and funding vital research to change lives tomorrow.

We make the clinical more comfortable; transforming the hospital space and adding the little touches that make a big difference to families.

Together with all our supporters and staff, we do it for the kids.

My son had an operation in this hospital. They stitched up his upper lip. The doctors are excellent, the care and food are excellent. The only thing was that we had to wait a very long time from 11 pm to 4 am we waited for the child to be put in the ward. In general, the doctors' attitude towards patients is excellent inside the operating room.
Sheffield children's hospital are truly amazing. My little girl was born with a hymangioma on her upper eye lid, which kept getting bigger. Our doctors constantly told us that it would 'disappear' however it grew so much it almost covered her left eye, which of course was affecting her vision. The doctors wouldn't listen to us with our concerns, it took several months for them to refer us. Once we secured the referral to the hospital, they immediately started her on treatment and its halved in size! They couldn't believe it had taken so long for the doctors to refer us, we finally felt listened to. The consultant we see is lovely and sends us appointments through every month to check on her hymangioma, I can honestly say as first time parents and we worry about everything they reassured us and answered our questions knowing how worried we were. We are very grateful to you and for the treatment.
I would like say thank you to everyone, for saving my son's life. Thank you to the woman who picked up the phone and sent an ambulance. Thank you to the wonderful ambulance people who made the right decision and took the child to the hospital.Thank you to all the doctors, nurses, all the hospital staff, people who came around and put a smile on our faces, the man who pulls the shelf with books, the musicians who gave us a bit of relax. You are all wonderful. Thank you very much for being and helping. Massive thank you for saving lives.
My son is having a operation here. Very good hospital.nOne of the greeters 'Chrissy' went above and beyond for us.nThank you.nnSo we've just spent four, days here on ward 1. Thank you to the guy who took my son down to theatre and calmed me after I struggled to keep it together. You made the four hour wait in surgery less stressful. I remembered your kind words and it made a difference.nnCannot fault this hospital. My son doesn't want to leave...! He loves the playroom. He was never bored. Staff/volunteers go above and beyond to keep kids happy. Thank you to the people like the volunteer Mel who was in the playroom.nWe stayed in one of the bays and the pull down bed for me was surprisingly comfy. The room is spotless. Lots of space. Plenty of storage.nnI saw another review critizing parent meals. Obviously if you're not a nursing mother you don't get meals provided. Same at every hospital I've been in. But there is a wonderful charity who have stocked up the freezer in the parents room. All they suggest is a voluntary donation of a pound.nThere are also food places on site and a co-op at the bottom of the street.nnThank you all staff. My son received compassion and kindness. You made what I expected to be a tough stay after his kidney removal, very straightforward and stressfree. The only niggle was whilst in theatre, the system was to call us on our mobiles and I lost signal downstairs. I had to go back and sit in recovery area just in case..... But that was a tiny tiny niggle. I think the pagers would have probably worked better.nnOh and thank you to the therapy dog who my son enjoyed the company of. Kiera I believe! That was a nice surprise..
My wife and I have been well and truly fobbed off by Sheffield Children's Hospital. Our son has had eating difficulties from weaning until now 23 months old and they don't want to know about it. Both Speech and Language and Gastro Enterology have discharged us with a simple phone call or 2 after giving a bunch pre-fabricated advice that bore no relevance to a 1 year old. After over a year waiting for calls and follow-ups, they performed an allergy test and probably spent around 5 minutes on the phone - that's all we're worth.nnThey showed zero empathy to what it feels like as a parent of a child that NEVER wants to eat. The mental strain and anguish for such parents is immense.
