Weston Park Hospital

Story

Weston Park Hospital is part of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Broomhill, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The hospital specialises in the treatment of cancer and is one of three purpose built specialist cancer (or oncology) hospitals in the United Kingdom. The hospital is managed under the wider 'Specialised Cancer, Medicine and Rehabilitation' Care Group, thereby increasing integration between the hospital and other STHFT departments (e.g. Clinical Haematology).Patients are referred for non-surgical cancer services (i.e. chemotherapy and radiotherapy) from the South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire area. Much of the surgical intervention takes place at the nearby Royal Hallamshire HospitalIn April 1995, Weston Park was designated a cancer centre and the surrounding district hospitals became cancer units, based on recommendations from the Calman Hine Report, the purpose of which was to provide a uniformly high standard of care as close to the patient's home as possible. For a time it was also the headquarters of the North Trent Cancer Network (now defunct).

Caring staff , very understanding , nothing too much trouble. Just spent 5 days on the ward the food on the whole was great , a bit hit and miss at times. It can be a nightmare to park , the car park is small but the guy in the booth does a great job. Allow time to park you may have to queue on the main road
Happy, cheerful, caring, professional staff on all levels. Medical staff on each shift to maintain a 24/7 presence show genuine friendly and heartfelt concern for the inpatients. Domestic staff are extremely friendly, helpful and always smiling. Public areas are frequently cleansed and sanitised. Ensuite bedrooms accommodate between one and three inpatients in each ward. These are carefully sanitised and serviced daily. Free good WiFi signal and free television access for each inpatient. Food is decent and edible. Visiting times are very liberal for inpatient visitors. Free car parking for patients with permit.
Just completed 20 days radiotherapy treatment.nLittle apprehensive at first, but the staff on LA8,were so reassuring.nCannot praise them enough for the care and compassion they gave me.nThey are a credit to Weston Park Hospital.nBest WishesnEric Ward.
Been seen in every department over the past 16 months. I’ve had chemotherapy twice, radiotherapy, a number of appointments and also been seen on the ward. All the staff on day case are lovely and friendly. Everyone every professional and caring. Always there to help and provide a much needed laugh or shoulder to cry on.nDrs were all nice and very helpful during appointments. I visited the ward on a few occasions for a day each time and my issues were always resolved.nThe only thing I didn’t like personally was the amount of people in the rooms. I appreciate people are on placements and in training but there was no warning so many people would be in the room. At times I did feel vulnerable and like I was a piece of meat been stared at. It wasn’t nice after having surgery and already feeling very self conscious.nUsually if any extra people were in a room I was asked first if it was ok or they introduced themselves to me. I feel this would have been a better approach.
Nurse specialists very approachable when needing advice during chemo journey. Amazing care and advice during my radiotherapy treatment. Everyone has been wonderful. Thank you all
