Been here last week. What a gorgeous pub in absolutely gorgeous village. A nice place to go for a city getaway. The food here is absolutely smashing. You can tell the chef's here love their craft and put their love and soul into the food. My favourite one from the dishes I had here certainly is the steak. Seasonal menu, local produce, lovely food. Definitely a must to visit at least once per season. The staff here certainly love their job, love to welcome their guests and very welcoming. The beer garden is clean and just amazing to drink in underneath the sun during the day, and then during the night stargaze at the stars.
Overall nice place with helpful, friendly staff. The pub is lovely and I bet the fireplace is cosy in the winter months. We stayed for a couple of nights at the weekend. The room was clean, well maintained and comfortable, and the shared kitchen is also well stocked. It could have done with more crockery, breakfast provided was simple but nice. Everything you need for a simple stay. The only thing wrong with our stay was the noise from the kitchen thin walls and from the pub itself at night, much later than midnight. I recongise that it was a weekend, but we were woken up throughout the night then a smoke alarm went off at 5am from people smoking inside? I would still recommend the place, but staff should be aware that if they're gonna do a lock-in they should keep it down.
Pleasant stay, friendly staff, would definitely go back if we ever found ourselves needing to stay in that area of the world again. Local Co-Op and Premier just a minute walk up the road. Clean and tidy room and standard tasty pub grub. You're staying in a side building connected to the pub which has two rooms and a little kitchenette, there was occasionally some noise from patrons hanging out the front, but it's a pub, it would be unreasonable to expect anything else.
Really great rack of ribs corn and chips was spot on also. Parents had burgers and said they were great. Even the little ones chicken nuggets were tasty, and you don't usually expect much from them. Really nice beer garden outside, with a quality tent. Great selection of beers and pretty solid selection of liquor. Sadly not much Scotch. Pleasant atmosphere and would definitely visit again.
New owners as of August 2020 have managed to absolutely nail the food offerings, which for so many years were not good. But they have come in and massively improved the food. The Sunday roasts come with a choice of small, medium and large, which is a great idea as not everyone always wants a massive meal. But it’s all great! Big yorkshire puds, gravy boats if you ask, perfectly cooked meat and veg, all washed down with a quality bitter! As of 2022 getting a solid and well deserved reputation for a music pub as well, as lots of top notch bands, and event done in conjunction with the Guitarbitz music shop in Bath. You are doing a great job for Timsbury guys, keep it up!
What a lovely Pub. Staff & food excellent. We all had Sunday Roasts. Definitely recommend & we will be returning. Our group was 4 adults & 2 children 7 & 3 year olds.
So 6 of us visited here last night..beautiful restaurant..really lovely place, couldn’t believe how big it was. Very friendly staff and a nice vibe about the place. So the meals..the men had the Stilton and garlic mushrooms that had the smallest pieces of ciabatta I’ve ever seen.. Our mains..I had the steak which said with skin on chips..they were frozen skinny fries and I was really not impressed. Plus didn’t realise till I’d finished they hadn’t given us our onion rings! 2 people ordered chips as sides which never made it to the table. We decided on desserts but was told when went to order them that the kitchen shut at 9!! We were very disappointed..maybe we could’ve been told that? It was only about 9.20pm..I’ve never known a restaurant that doesn’t serve food wether savoury or desserts past 9pm. We probably won’t return because of that fact.
Friendly staff 2 stars but truly awful Sunday roast. The food all looked and tasted pre-prepared or ready-made and reheated. Ok, maybe the peas were fresh, from frozen.
Been coming here for nearly a year . Lovely helpful friendly staff and hats off to Frank and co for trying really hard to make it a proper village pub .
Disappointing. Four of us stopped in for lunch yesterday 24 September. It wasn't busy at all when we arrived about 2 pm. We ordered 2 x dirty fries, salad and a baguette. The food took so long to arrive and didn't all arrive together, even though we ordered at the same time. First meal came out 45 minutes after ordering, second after 50 minutes and the final two came out another 10 minutes after that. The food was tasty and it's a lovely pub, so it's such a shame that the poor service let it down.
