Seems to have been refurbished. Nice new carpets and common areas look really good. Breakfast was wonderful. My room was ok, even if the ceiling of my 2. floor room was a bit low. All in all, good value for money.

Booked a suite and a double for two nights. Woken at 8.15 am by maintenance work on the floor above, and although reception were very apologetic and stopped the work straight away, the damage had been done! I was wide awake. The hotel was very stylish in its day. It has a grade two listed staircase, massive guilt edged mirror and grand lobby area on the first floor. But it has not been very well looked after or maintained. Grubby in places. The rooms are very dated and tired. The staff however are very friendly and efficient. I cannot fault them at all. Plus you couldn't get much closer to the sea!

My husband and l stayed at the Royal Victoria last night. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The suite was clean, warm and very comfortable. The food in the Piano Bar was very nice and the staff could not do enough for us. Will definitely be going back.

3 starts out of 5 as the windows in our hotel room did not close properly, cold was coming through at all times. Had to use towels to shut out some of the cold. The curtains were nice and thick too and after we closed those as well the room got warm. Shame though as we had to keep the curtains closed 90% of the times and considering we paid for a room and a view to the Sea it didn't really worth the money. They also went in to 'clean' our room while we were away sightseeing. Not sure if they do this all the time but we did not leave outside the door sign saying we'd like them to service our room. They changed the towels and opened(!!!) all the curtains so again, it was cold (we went for Valentines day) by the time we got back. Was not happy about this as we left out our valueables on the table... everything was still there but it did not make me comfortable knowing they've been in our room.

Hotel has a good position on the seafront which on a nice day would be lovely. The room was a good size but the bathroom was not suitable as the shower was over the bath and no grab rails for assistance off the toilet. Would not recommend for anyone with mobility issues. Also parking is a bit of a walk away unless you are lucky to get a space on the street. The staff were very helpful.
