Story

Queens Hotel is a luxury hotel in Southsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire. The current hotel was built in 1903 by the architect T.W. Cutler in the Edwardian baroque style in brown terracotta. It replaced the original Southsea House which had been built by the architect Augustus Livesay in 1861 and gutted by a fire on 8 December 1891. The book England describes the hotel as a "Magnificent Edwardian hotel overlooking the Common, with ornate stone-carved balconies and countless neoclassical decorative flourishes". The hotel contains 74 rooms and has two bars and a restaurant. An episode of Mr. Bean starring Rowan Atkinson was filmed at this hotel in 1992, first aired in March 1993.

What a stunning venue! The decor is exquisite and perfectly situated. Beautiful, uninterrupted views of the sea. Extremely high ceilings, decorated with style, and very high-quality furnishings. We popped in for a coffee and a cheeky glass of vino. We were served by extremely knowledgeable, and friendly staff, who obviously took exceptional pride in their profession. It was lovely to see a wedding in full swing in their dedicated area. Thank you, The Queens Hotel, I shall return soon for a spot of decadence!
We recently had our wedding at The Queens Hotel and it was the most amazing day. The venue is beautiful the staff are fantastic and couldn't do more for us and our guests. The day went perfectly thanks to our wonderful wedding co-ordinator who took care of everything. Food was also delicious and our vegan guests said the vegan Eton mess was the best dessert they've had. The rooms are decorated beautifully and have amazing sea views. Couldn't recommend this hotel enough for big or small occasions.
Let's start with the positives, the staff were excellent they were all kind, helpful and efficient. Each trying to make our stay wonderful. Now to the negatives. Our room was on the third floor above there party marquee also just below a large neon sign letter. As we were informed it was party season so at midnight the noise did stop but we never needed to turn the lights on because of the neon sign. My pet hate shower curtains ahwell it does mean the cleaners don't have to clean the curtains because you do while washing lol. Bathroom sink taps moved while you were trying to turn them on. The room was tidy but did need blackout curtains.nOverall a nice break
I attended a wedding, stayed overnight and had breakfast at Queens. The wedding was excellent and the location was beautiful.nnI am rating this place as a hotel. It cost around £165 for one night in a basic double room. The hotel and building itself is impressive, however, the rooms were very dated and overpriced. My double bed was two singles made into a double and the gap between the mattresses was annoying. The bathroom had many filthy tiles and the condition of the shower head was unacceptable.nnI want to compliment the staff on the service for the wedding and all the food was which provided was very yummy but for the price of the room, it’s very difficult to justify anything more than the score provided. £165 for a room you could find nearby for half the price.
My wife and I got married at the Queens Hotel back in May. The hotel itself is an old portsmouth staple. Good location, beautiful decor the foyer is stunning lovely garden, nice rooms. Food is excellent, we have sampled the bar and restaurant menus several times and as an ex chef 25 years behind the pass I have always been impressed.nnBut this isn't a review of the hotel itself. This review is for the staff. They are excellent. I've worked with some good crews in my time and the Queens front of house and back of house staff are really very, very good. In particular Lisa, our wedding coordinator. She really knew her stuff. She took a nervous shy couple and made sure the day went perfectly.nnI honestly could not fault Lisa's efforts, her crew were excellent, front and back of house performed flawlessly. We don't plan on getting married again but if we did we would do it at the Queens. We liked Lisa so much we would happily take her out for drinks.nnThank you
