Premier Inn Monmouth hotel

Story

Nestled in the wooded Wye Valley, Monmouth is a quaint Welsh market town that's inspired many artists and poets thanks to its glorious greenery. From our Monmouth hotel, put on your walking boots and hike up Kymin Hill to admire the spectacular views, or explore the town's rich history, from its Georgian townhouses to the medieval Gatehouse Bridge. Go whitewater rafting on the Wye, catch a flick at the original 1920s arthouse cinema, canoe past the Forest of Dean or simply bask in the calm and tranquility - the choice is yours. Once you've enjoyed all that fresh country air, head back for a well-deserved dinner at our in-house Thyme restaurant. Afterwards, it's time to relax in your modern, stylish bedroom, curl up in front of your 40" flatscreen TV and enjoy a great night's sleep in your luxury Hypnos bed.

Been staying in Prems for years as same good standard everywhere and this one was no different. I dropped a star due to a policy change that applies to all locations. Early check in! Now charging £15 to check in before 3pm. Why? If the room is ready and you arrive an hour early then check in, if not ready then paying £15 is not going to make it ready. So the charge is a money making rip off and I hope it fails.
A little tired but what makes this hotel are the staff. Kelsey, Ahmed and Tim were especially helpful and caring. I had come from Australia with my husband’s ashes to be interred and laid in Monmouth with his parents. Physically an exhausting and emotional journey. They made me feel more than welcome and should be given a pat on the back for the way they interact with all guests. A stay in London behind the Eye at another Premier Inn left a bad taste in our mouths but they have restored that image. Beds as usual made for a much needed peaceful sleep, the dining experience was good and always hot, parking which was useful for those picking me up etc was plentiful but one has to be aware of the parking rules and pay attention to the signage!! I needed a walk in shower due to my physicality and thought I had booked one but there were non available. I did have trouble negotiating a high bath!! I shall leave today however with a renewed view of staying at a Premier Inn thanks to my experience here.
Hotel was clean enough.nArrived on Friday just after 3pm and checked in asked if the bar was open and was told no by the receptionist who then said she would go fetch the keys and open it, bar is a drinks cabinet with spirits in, fridges with wines and beers in no hand pumped beers, choice of bitter was limit to bottled doom bar, larger wasn't much choice either, few ciders and wines the receptionist was very helpful and friendly and talkative cannot fault her 5*.nPut our bags in the room and sat in the bar untill dinner time.nDinner time came and a polite friendly young man came to take our order but was soon back to tell us that there was no prawn cocktail starters how difficult is it to make a prawn cocktail 10mins?,nWas also informed that there was no pizzas on the main menu despite the menu suggesting they were hand rolled and fresh, i suspect this may not be the case! If they're hand rolled how come there wasn't any?. The young man serving us was polite and apologetic cannot fault, his customer service skills were very good 5*.nThe food we eventually did order was hot and fresh and again sevice was 5*.nOne of our two rooms had an issue with the air-conditioning the touch screen display wasn't working, we went and spoke to another person who was more than happy to assist us he reset the air-conditioning from his office looks like the previous guest had the controls to their panel locked out i went back and set the air conditioner but nothing went to receptionist and the same guy was very friendly and super helpful he reset the room again and came to check it was working he had a look inside the unit and went off to replace the filter inside the unit and stayed to make sure the whole thing was fully functioning before going back to his station. Apologies for giving the cleaner a fright the man who helped us was polite and apologetic and super friendly cannot fault 5*nSundays are pretty full on for breakfast, we were told to book at time and arrived and were told to help ourselves the were a lot of people so we were waiting for the use of the toasters and queuing for hot food but again the staff were doing their best with the number of guests eating again 5* service. Breakfast was always hot and delicious no complaints there,nDid have to keep mentioning the teapots. It appears the paper handles on the draw string tea bags were getting stuck inside the teapot and despite being clean pots the pg tips paper handle on the draw string was still stuck inside but again 5* service from the staff who could not be more apologetic when pointing out this minor detail to what was overall a pretty great service.nits humid but that cannot be helped the room air con worked a treat and definitely kept the humidity out. Would i stay here again you bet I would.. thank you to all the staff i met and if I'm ever back in the area I'll be booking this place again!
Lovely hotel but this review is for the amazing staff. I needed help and it was an unusual request but Clair and Ami came to my rescue. They went above and beyond, these two wonderful women came to my aid and we had a good giggle afterwards. Can't thank you enough for being there for me and I will definitely be back. Staff like this are priceless.
Lovely staff, room was clean and comfortable bed. Food was lovely only downside was the breakfast could do with being hotter as it was only warm. Location for the town centre was perfect.
