Story

The Mayhill Hotel is a public house and hotel located Wyesham Road, Monmouth, Wales. The pub is situated between the roads leading to Wyesham and the Forest of Dean and as such claims it is the Last Pub in Wales.HistoryThe building did not open as a public house & Hotel until the 20th Century. In the 18th Century it accommodated lodgers. Founded in 1830 the building became a school called the May Hill Academy for a short period in the 1820s it was run by the Davies family. Frank Shelly was the first proprietor of the Public House and Hotel and advertised the Hotel in 1924 as Family and Commercial, board residence, luncheons, dinners and teas. Electric light throughout. In the 1930s Mrs E Braint was the manageress when the pub was serving Ind Coope and Allsopp Burton Ales.

We stayed a single night with breakfast. The gentleman managing the bar couldn’t do enough for us. For breakfast we had a fully cooked breakfast that was 5 along with the Chefs tip top hospitality. Highly recommended
Warm welcome, lovely comfortable room with fabulous bathroom with very large shower no bath. Good breakfast too. Upright fans had been put into the rooms to help with the recent hot temperatures which was a nice touch. Due to location some morning traffic noise if windows open which wasn't an issue for us. Would definitely stay again. Thank you!
Everything concerning this hotel is amazing from the owner to all of his staff including most of all the chef he couldn't do enough to cater for our needs If anyone is looking for a beautiful hotel this is the place to come toRooms: 5/5
This place was great for the price, only a 10min walk into Monmout town centre. The host was really lovely and welcoming and the room was comfortable. The breakfast was really nice. I would recommend staying here.Rooms: 4/5

A lovely stay. So local and walking distance to Monmouth town. Lisa at reception was so friendly and helpful and arranged for a local taxi for us too also proving us many restraunt choices for the evening. A great set up and breakfast was delicious. Our room was ideal and the en suites look recently updated.Rooms: 4/5

Has a nice atmosphere of a local pub and the food tastes good and is cheap. The best feature in my opinion is the pool table and the dartboard which are both favourites of mine. The parking could be better and accessibility for larger cars isn't great but other than that this place is great.
We stopped overnight here. The location was really good overlooking the Monnow and opposite the School. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a good size was nicely appointed and the bathroom was really lovely. I particularly liked the rainfall shower. Breakfast was good except for the sausage which I thought was tasteless. A great value overnigjt stop forxa tourist town.
