"Located in the heart of Chew Magna, The Pelican sits on the edge of the Mendips surrounded by beautiful Somerset countryside. Inside, its cosy bar and dining area with log fire is the perfect spot during the winter, while its spacious garden comes alive in the warmer months.Choose from a delicious seasonal menu, a selection of local Butcombe beers, spirits and cocktails, and wood-fired pizza to eat-in or takeaway throughout the summer."

We got a booking at last minute on Thursday evening. Welcoming staff showed us to our table but never asked did we want a drink? Surely in a pub that's the first question. Menu quite limited but other pub was too so maybe they are all cutting down the choices. Burger was pretty good though a bit more coleslaw would have been good. Mrs had the curry which wasn't quite as good as she hoped but edible. Prices much the same throughout the eateries in Chew Magna.
This was a total mixed bag. Lovely spot. Great staff but the food had its ups and downs. The burger and chips were excellent. Char grilled patty, decent bun and strong smokey bacon. My partner had the white bait and calamari. The batter on the calamari was just s a bit flaccid for my taste. Liked the bloody Mary ketchup, though. The beetroot salad was a bit of a damp squib. The feta crumbled.not whipped and lacking flavor and the dressing nowhere to be seen. The sticky date pudding was also a bit of a letdown. The pud itself was more like a steamed sponge. Sticky implies gooey crispy bits. None of that here. The ginger bread ice cream was downright delicious, though, and the rum butterscotch sauce was yummy. Would give it another bash, but it wasn't what we hoped
Had a wonderful vegan burger here, was nice and quiet on a Tuesday lunchtime but perfect for me to get some work done. Good wifi and friendly staff. Good range on the menu and a nice very hot coffee to top it off. Thanks!
We had a lovely experience at the pub. They couldn't have done enough for us, great service & yummy food. Would definitely recommend.
Called in on Sunday late lunchtime, on the off-chance we could get some food. ?manager couldn't be more helpful; found a gap between bookings for table for 2. Food veggie roast was brilliant, service with a smile. Considering we hadn't booked, the staff were wonderful. Very grateful, will use again but book next time!. Thanks, Pelican!
We were disappointed with our experience here. We had pre booked and pre ordered for a large group. When we arrived the staff were friendly but very stressed and distracted. The roast pork didn't have any crackling as the menu suggested and the kids chicken was served on the bone which we then had to cut off ourselves as the staff response was that's just how they serve it. It has potentially to be great as it's a lovely setting, perhaps we caught them on a badly busy day
waited 40 mins for food, for it then to 'arrive' and one of the meals to be wrong.which is ever more surprising as I heard the waitress confirm twice if we wanted the chicken burger! waited a further 20 mins and decided enough was enough and left. everyone working seems to not really know what's going on and the waitress seemed completely in a different world - no advice whether to order at the bar or at the table, not impressed. would never visit again.
Delicious Sunday lunch, but they did not offer us the 3 for 2 deal for lunches after 3.00pm
We were overnighting while on Uni visits for our daughter. We popped into the village and chose the Pelican out of the blue. It was fantastic. The service was lovely and informal. The drinks awesome and the food delicious. The venue is absolutely lovely! Thank you
Great pub, lovely atmosphere , good service and Sunday lunch a must.. make sure you leave room for a pudding .
