Story

The Old Ship dates back to the 16th Century and is a mere stone's throw from the marina. Our beer is very good and the food is all freshly prepared - with some great specials. We are very popular locally, not just for the above but the warm and friendly atmosphere too. We serve freshly made homecooked food all day and have a wide range of lagers, ales and stouts. We have picket fence gardens and welcome children. We are also avaliable for wedding receptions, conferencing or any other kind of function.

First time here, and loved the old fashioned quaintness , with the fireplaces dark wood and similar atmosphere. Good selection of drinks and ales. Staff were friendly and explained the history of the Inn.Service: 5/5
My favourite pub and restaurant, and has been consistently for years. Really nice atmosphere and building, being parts of an old age of sail ship, there's many places to find cozy tables. It's on the more expensive side for food, but definitely worth it. Many pubs are not good value for money and offer few chips and small portions. The old ship offer lovely food and always happy to accommodate us when we wanted substitutions. It's also a perfect place to either finish at or visit during a hike, being on the river Hamble. Dog friendly too!!
Very very generous portions! Food was delicious but if you don't have a large appetite suggest you ask about smaller plates. Staff were very friendly and helpful - they were happy to slit a kids meal into 2 for our 2 youngsters and there was more than enough for both of them. Vegetarian options: Good choice of vegetarian dishes Kid-friendliness: Ample highchairs and a nice menu for youngsters- big portions!
A lovely pub, with great looking food. We didn’t eat, but could see how good the food was. I’m sure we will be back for a meal. Ales were good, but could do with a guest ale on.Service: 5/5
First time for about 8 years I went there Tues night with 2 friends. We had booked a table and it was busy and they were short staffed, I had to wait a while to find which table we were on and I I nearly walked out. After the average start everything just got so much better, the staff worked their socks off in a calm efficient way. Then the food arrived, Hugh platefulls of tasty food at a decent price. A very enjoyable meal and I will certainly be go back soon.
Delicious hearty pub food boasting large portions to feed the eyes and packed with flavour. Recommended to family friends and now they go as much as we do! • Good location, has parking • Nice relaxing atmosphere
We fancied some good homemade pub food and we were not disappointed. Often pubs have homecooked on the menu but homemade is harder to find. There was a good selection of specials on the board on top of a pleasing selection of staple pub classics in the menu. The food was very good, piping hot and the portions were generous. The bar area was cosy, comfortable and had a good selection of beers, wines, etc, as you'd hope. What I like about the Old Ship is the querky mix of open seating at ground level and the inviting central bar that faces stairs that take you down to the even more cosy and low ceilinged seated area below. Sometimes the open fire is on and it brings a lovely warmth to this old tavern. It has a friendly feel to the place and is more traditionally presented which I love. Food and drinks are ordered at the bar which is fine but I think the staff that were delivering food could be a bit more attentive and proactive. Also the seat my wife sat on was filthy... perhaps from dogs? Otherwise we really enjoyed it and will definitely be back soon.
We have eaten many times at this restaurant and never had a problem. We both ordered the roast chicken Sunday dinner my husband ordered and paid and within 3 minutes our dinner was on the table.I could tell the potatoes were reheated and had to assume so was the rest yet they state all freshly cooked. I couldn't eat all mine.Later the same day I had griping stomach pains and was violently ill warranting my husband to call paramedics who said it looked like food poisoning after an hour and an anti sickness injection they were happy to leave me at home to recover. We will not be eating there again as freshly cooked obviously means pre cooked and reheated.
Great pub. Staff and food brilliant. Lots of different tables to suit small and large groups.Food: 5/5
UPDATE October 2022 - Back after a 3 or 4 year absence due to covid and everything was as good as before. Great Father's Day afternoon. When I rang to book, they told me they had 2 sittings: 12 or 3pm. We went for 3pm. The pub was not crowded but enough people so it didn't feel deserted. The food was top quality: roasts, steak, lasagne. The service was efficient and friendly without being over-bearing. The nautical theme and dark wood make for an atmospheric ambience. Definitely recommend!
