The food was really good and the staff was friendly So perhaps the negative reviews are from people with really high expectations? I'm not sure. But we had no issues. I'll admit, Chinese food wasn't my first option but with everything else closed later . This ended up being a great stop finishing up our road trip.
We were walking by as none of the places were serving food anymore and we came across this place which we were excited to try as we love asian food. However, we were taken by surprise . I checked the reviews once we sat down and I really hoped it would not be a bad experience but it was not a good one at all. First, they said that better to take away as it will be less expensive as they would charge a 10 percent service tax if we sit down and have food. We insisted that it's okay as we wanted to sit down with a view upstairs. We ordered kungpao chicken with egg fried rice , veg fried rice and spring rolls veg. The food was not good at first glance as the kung pao chicken was just namesake. No veggies in it and it was just chicken nuggets tossed in sweet chilli Thai sauce and some peanuts, with rice in the same sauce and traces of egg . To say the least it was very disappointing. When it came down to bill, by chance I recalled the price that I had seen on the menu downstairs and to my surprise they had billed one pound extra each on the main dishes.when I asked the front desk to check again, the other guy just comes in and is angrily tossing the two coins at us talking in another language. Also, service tax was charged for our bill total which we had paid for . But when we sat down on table we were told to fend for ourselves, the napkins and utensils . Overall I will not recommend this place to anyone. .
Visited No1 noodles & rice this evening with two of my mates whilst on a road trip to Skye. We decided to stop here for a quick evening meal. The service was friendly and the restaurant was clean and comfortable, the Skye gold beers were nice and cold and served in appropriate glassware. however unfortunately the food was a bit of a let down, it was clear that most dishes were from frozen as mentioned in previous reviews. Unfortunately this means the food was overpriced. Some improvements need to be made from a food aspect. I think the owners are aware of the improvements needed and the previous reviews as the do seem to be making a good effort.
Oh my goodness, why did we walk in. The guy server seemed nice enough but when the menu didn’t make sense we should have run. Frozen chicken nuggets with a watery sweet sauce, huge cut onions and plain over boiled rice! You couldn’t make it up, it was awful. And to top it all it was £20 a head for that with 1 coke! This should not still be open. Don’t go, rather go to coop and grab a cake.
Just finished eating here, as options are pretty limited in Portree on a Monday night apparently, and I would strongly recommend… AVOIDING. We ordered non-Asian meals chicken wings and nuggets with chips and all the food was quite clearly frozen and microwaved despite the pretty high prices on each item. At one point we asked for tap water and were told “water is free but we charge 50p for the cup and service”. Last, we were surprised by an automatic 10% “service charge” on our bills we weren’t made aware of in advance, even though we had to get our own cutlery, condiments and even napkins. Save your money and choose another dinner option, because these guys are clearly only in business still due to the options being so limited here.
Arrived 45mins before closing and we were told we could eat in as long as we were quick. A cup of tap water was £1 in a paper cup - I was rather taken aback by that…. My meal was fine, my friends meal recommended by the waiter was inedible. Two random chicken nuggets, one boiled egg, noodles, veg and a mound of very unappealing meat - a very disappointing £35 spent! The presentation of both meals was poor and the service was equally disappointing…..if I’m fortunate enough to visit the lovely town, I certainly won’t be eating here again!
To start off, the waiter was very friendly, and the view outside the window was beautiful. But unfortunately, these were the only pleasant things about our experience. It was peak lunchtime hours and all the other restaurants nearby were packed to the brim, so we decided to eat here instead. Imagine our shock when we walked into the dining room and saw that we were the ONLY guests there. We decided to give the place a chance, but that proved to be a mistake. The food was overpriced and subpar at best — definitely not worth the hefty price tag. A service charge was automatically included in our bill, but there was barely any service at all; we were expected to grab our own napkins, cutlery, and sauces. The only things actually provided to our table were the drinks and food. Also, there was a large camera pointing right towards us the entire time, which made the experience even more awkward, especially since we were the only ones there. All in all, an uncomfortable and overpriced dining experience, with substandard food to boot. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this place to anyone.
You are hungry after 2pm; In portree only 2 Restaurants you can eat beetween 2 and 5pm . This and a Indian Restaurant.
This is the worst Chinese “food” ever.. it can’t even be called food! The photos on their google site are not what they actually serve. The “highly recommended” dish by the store manager is all left over food which they dumped onto a plate. They don’t care about customers and they serve us literally dog food! AVOID THIS RESTAURANT and don’t get tricked by the name “No1”... they are number 1 from the bottom !!
Stopped by for dinner since everywhere else was booked/long waits. The traditional Chinese soup is below average and they use actual chicken nuggetsmost likely frozen for their chicken in their chicken dishes. First Chinese restaraunt I've seen do that, thought it was lost in translation when reading the menu. You also grab your own cutleries from a tray, some utensils weren't clean. Worst meal we've had in Scotland, The server was friendly though and food was prompt.
