About

Keep up to date with the various projects underway in National Maritime Museum Cornwall workshop, from restorations to reconstructions.

Story

The National Maritime Museum Cornwall boatbuilding workshop operates two workshops; one in the main museum where visitors can see boat restoration or archaeological boat reconstruction actually underway, and one in our boat store that is not generally open to the public.

We will be using this page to update visitors on the various projects underway in both workshops for those who want more detail about the work we do and the boats we work on.

Really great place to take the family, especially on wet days. Some exhibitions change periodically which means there's good incentive to return, but can mean sometimes the museum is more child friendly than on other occasions. Buying a ticket allows you to return for free for a year so long as you keep your ticket. Really good value if you're local. Finally the gift shop is actually pretty good and has a range of nautical gifts ranging from a couple of quid to hundreds. UPDATE: There are several exhibitions under maintenance or being changed at present (17-2-18). We were not made aware of this as we bought our tickets and had to pay full price. Seems a bit cheeky.

If you don't like the sea and related subjects then the interest is a bit limited but the museum has some Very interesting related displays. Whenmi visited there was an excellent display about captain Bligh of the Bounty fame and another display about the history of tattoos. Both very worth the visit. Nice little family orientated cafe with views across Falmouth harbour. Quiet when I visited over the winter. Very good gift shop.

Great museum, friendly staff. Sailing boat models are fun. Fascinating insight to Falmouth's place in maritime history. Time your visit right and you can see fish in the harbour under water. HRH RN are often moored near the viewing platform. Titanic exhibition (04/2018) very good, challenges preconceptions. As is often the case at these venues, some interactive exhibits are not tough enough to cope with enthusiastic children, and are broken. 10/10.
