2nd week April, 2024. We were about 2 or 3 weeks early to see the garden in its glory. Despite the warm temperatures this year bringing the season forward, many of the bushes and bluebells were in bud or just about to come out, so the garden was a bit green, with only some of the early bushes displaying, though many had lost a lot of their petals in the recent storm. Otherwise, we had a nice time and walked down to the beach and pottered. There is a maze which is really good for children and discovery activities too. The cafe was nice and served a good selection of cakes, sandwiches, snacks, and beverages.
A family favourite. Start with a tasty lunch before entering the garden.Sit outside if the weather permits. Bring a few seconds hand books to donate & find some to take away. Camellias, Rhododendrons, bluebells out. Plenty of birds. A robin fledgling being fed by it's parent. A beach at the bottom of the garden. Some terrain steep. For those with balance issues a companion is helpful. A delightful afternoon out... Restrooms: Good facilities near the cafe & car park Picnic area: Plenty of seating throughout the garden & places to picnic. Signs around the garden to stay on designated pathways etc
What a surprise this place turned out to be. Stunning gardens meandering down to the river and views out to sea. Many paths to explore with plants that take you to another continent, maybe another time You almost expect to see a dinosaur munching on the giant ferns!.. The maze centered in the middle of the gardens is a real gem with complete but lower hedges so no cheating but also no claustrophobia! Great little cafe at the top of the gardens provides well earned refreshment.
Lovely gardens, Easter activity for the kids. Nice day out.
A lovely garden but with some very steep slopes so wear solid footwear!! Very well laid out, lots of interesting plants and amazing blue hydrangeas everywhere. The maze has been recently restored and looks very lush. I still managed to get lost though! The walk through the gardens goes down to the sea, and there is a little area selling ice-creams : very welcome after the long walk down!!
Nice gardens, but not much in flower like others gardens I have seen. Some good paths down to the bay, The maze was tricky but fun. Good book shop and cafe.
Excellent staff beautiful place a must. Very scenic Restrooms: Ideal for a toilet stop Dog-friendliness: Walk dogs, around Picnic area: Lovely area to have a bite
Stourhead on a ski-slope. Be prepared for a brisk walk down to the sea and back up. The trip is well worth the walk. Lots of flora and fauna and in the middle is an original 1800s maze. Get down to the village and there is tea, coffee and chocolate awaiting. Throw some skimmers into the sea and head back. The path is steep but manageable even for the more elderly walkers.
Absolutely amazing, beautiful & stunning! Everything! From the moment you arrive from the clean flush environment you can already see your in for a treat. It has it all. Cafe, food toilets at the start. Friendly staff, to get you on your way. And the moment you actually enter a area. Your surrounded by beautiful flowers, trees and land. Everything is well looked after and maintained. I feel doesn't matter what time of year you go. Its well and truly a nice day out. With many areas and paths to explore. Well recommended. Restrooms: Clean and tidy Picnic area: Alot of benches and areas to sit and enjoy views
Loved the place. A winding set of paths down to a surprisingly nice beach. They sell ice cream there, in a tub. There is one toilet down by the beach. The paths are steep in places but are firm under foot. Get a map, it's free. The garden has a nice maze and lots of trees and bushes. It's not formally planted but is very beautiful. Af the entrance there is a good cafe and toilets.
