I visited the museum today for the first time in 11 years and the post refurbishment museum is excellent. It is a focused museum meaning each gallery tells a story with it's collection of artefacts meaning you could put in an effective visit in 2 hours or spend the day here to cover everything. It covers every aspect of military life and I think you can find something to interest relatives of all ages as there are interactive exhibits. Next time I'll bring my children.nnThere is a soft play here for families with small children book in advanced and a cafe with a good amount of seating serving snacks and main meals.
A fabulous place full of history and information! Very recommended to visit. Came here in the morning, and left for lunch, then still thought of it so came back and visit again. The cloakroom is free of charge, which is really impressive and the staffs are very friendly. Would recommend everyone to buy something or at least donate a bit to support the museum, it’s really a treasure to have such a museum for everyone, no matter military, veterans, civilians or just history-lovers like me! It’s also a good place for children since they have some places and activities designed well.
Not very big, but interesting. You can see weapons from different periods, medals, uniforms and other military accessories. However, not as spectacular as I would have expected. There are not many fighting machines/tanks/planes or other massive exhibits.nYou need 60-90 minutes to visit it.nEntrance is free.nThe museum also has a cafe where you can also have lunch.
Lots of great information and artifacts on the British Army, ranging from its birth in the 17th century up until the modern day.nnHighlights are the considerable amount of uniforms, artifacts, equipment and weaponry on display - as well as a Lynx helicopter and Challenger 2 tank.nnThere's also a lot of insight into day-to-day life of a soldier, their stories and the campaigns that the British Army took part in.
This place is a must for anyone interested in British military history. The museum does a great job of telling the history of the British Army and has an impressive collection of arms and artifacts. I’m very interested in the Anglo-Zulu War, so it was fascinating to see the display and painting of Isandlwana. Other things not to miss include the bones of Napoleon’s horse and Lawrence of Arabia’s robe, headdress, and dagger.
