We spent over an hour here… a great way to map social history through packaging, advertising and products over time. We also loved the nostalgia of finding things from your childhood! A great place to visit for an hour or two near to Portobello and Notting Hill.
Fascinating. Brilliant but flawed...nnLots of objects, packed into continuous walls of displays. And I do mean packed - I think I heard there are about 80,000 items on display! Starting from the Victorian era if you ignore the token cabinet of archaeological objects, organised by era or decade, there are all kinds of things: food, drink, medicines, radios, TVs, clothes, toys, books, magazines, and much more. Each era or decade is described in one short panel see example in my photos but these panels are the total extent of the curatorial text - the objects themselves are not described. So if you wonder what an object is, tough luck, you can't find out. Equally if you want to know more about an object, you're out of luck. There were a couple of audio displays, but these didn't work on the day I visited. So it was interesting to see all these objects, some familiar from childhood days, summer from history books and old movies, some completely novel; but ultimately frustrating.nThere is a small but sufficient café which serves a small range of sandwiches and sweet things. And the three members of staff we interacted with were very friendly and helpful.
If I were to make a list of must-visit places in London, the Museum of Brands would definitely be in the top 10. This museum stands out from standard history or art museums by showcasing more tangible items, particularly brands, events, and toys that have shaped our lives over the past 200 years. It’s fascinating to see the products people used in the recent past, the packaging details, typographic changes, evolving habits, devices, and perspectives on political events—all through the items and materials on display.
This museum has so much to see from the Victorian Era up to modern day. It took us about and hour and a half to go through and it brought back a lot of nostalgia. It also has a nice little café and giftshop. I highly recommend giving this museum a visit if you have some time to spare while in London
I have been wanting to visit for a few years and we finally managed it this year. It's not a big museum but I absolutely loved it. It takes you back to your childhood
