We went for dinner on Sunday and it was amazing. We had the Sunday roast and my daughter had fish and chips. The food was lovely. Only small thing was it had a lot of gravy on the plate. Would have preferred it to come in a pot on side . The food tasted amazing tho and a lot of it. Service was amazing and staff super nice. We sat outside as they have done the seating area up and it was lovely. Lots of seating and can imagine. It look amazing at night with all the lights. Would recommend this place to anyone as was a really nice place. Parking: Small car park at the back of the pub
Excellent proper pub in York. We called in early evening as a party of six with no booking but they managed to squeeze us in. Very friendly and helpful staff nut allergy in the group was catered for and food arrived very quickly. Lovely homemade food from the burger to the curry, all enjoyed by all. Just a shame our appetites weren't up to the portion sizes as it was so yummy! Would recommend anyone looking for a proper pub atmosphere with delicious home made food.
Visited here on a recommendation and I wasn't disappointed. The fish and chips was absolutely superb. Perfectly cooked fish and home made hand cut chips. The pub itself was a good traditional English pub. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Also, the background music was great too.
So impressed! The staff were great. Very welcoming as soon as we came through the door. We all ordered the Sunday roast. It was fresh, hot and well presented. Very generous portions but I managed to clear my plate. Shared a cheesecake which was the real McCoy not a fluffy imposter. Really can't fault you at all. Honey my dog was also made very welcome with treats and water. 10/10. Would definitely recommend Vegetarian options: My two friends had what looked an excellent vegetarian. They loved it. It was a good vegetarian option not an afterthought.
Really wonderful service, friendly & accomodating. We had the Sunday lunch which was great and massive!. The stuffing was a real highlight, and the chicken was great too, very tender. The Yorkshire puddings were immense, and delicious. The quality and quantity for the price was fantastic value.Food: 4/5
We came here 10 mins before they finished food service, but thankfully, they found us a table and gave us a menu asking us if we would choose quickly. We chose a steak and also the pie of the day. The meals came out and they were wonderful, the pie was a huge wedge and deep filled, the steak was cooked perfectly. Lovely food and very attentive staff made a great evening in a lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend.
We recently stayed at this pub for a two nights during a sightseeing trip to York. Our room was basic but perfectly reasonable for a short stay. An advantage of using the accommodation is the availability of free parking in the rear secure yard. The pub facilities were fantastic with friendly staff and a good selection of beers and spirits. We ate there on both nights and both meals were delicious. Good choices from the main menu with an additional specials notice board. Second night was very busy and it was a good job that we had booked a table. All around looked to be enjoying their food and the busy atmosphere shows the pub has a good reputation. Very pleasant visit and we would highly recommend this place.
Able to get a table for six at short notice on a cold rainy night in York, the little pub won our hearts with excellent variety and quality of food. The attentive service, the portions of food and the friendly atmosphere had us leaving in high spirits two hours later. Highly recommend!
What a little gem of a place - the warm welcome and attentive staff was so lovely - we booked early evening and we ordered from the Sunday menu and the food was 'A-maze-ing'. We could not resist the desserts which was absolutely lovely - all home made. It was that good we booked in for the following evening - gosh it was just as good as the night before - I would definitely recommend a visit.
What a great pub, we were in York for the weekend a long way from home, my partner is a stonemason so the name drew us in and I'm really glad we did. Great atmosphere in the pub, great music and the staff were very friendly. We didn't eat, just had drinks but it was the first place all weekend where when I asked for no ice my drink was served with no ice so a massive thumbs up from me for that.
