Don't be put off by the appearance/decor. Needs a refurbishment. The food and chef are amazing. We almost walked out initially but a couple recommended staying as the food was top notch and they wasn't wrong. Steaks were perfection, risotto delicious and the fish and chips tasty. 5 stars for the chef
We stayed here for 3 night Fri-Mon. At no point was our room made up, given fresh towels or more tea/coffee. We were not told this on check in and rarely saw anyone to ask for a top up. We'd get back late each night. For the price, the hotel was okay but probably wouldn't stay again. The room was a decent size but the bed was uncomfortable. We kept rolling in to the middle of the bed and left with back ache. The bathrooms all operate on macerators so when you flush or use the sink/shower you get a loud grinding. Fine most of the time but not during the night. We decided to have a lazy morning in the room one day and noticed how badly the shower smells. The drains we're really horrid. Luckily it was warm enough to have the windows open in the bedroom. I must add that the breakfast was really nice. We only had it one day but they also handled my gluten allergy really well.
Stayed 2 nights 31/8 and 1/9. Room was comfortable and clean with everything you needed. The food served at breakfast and during the day was fantastic .The chef has a a good menu .Will definitely stay again .The free car park and short walk to the centre were a real bonus .Thanks to all the staff who were friendly an amazing find .
Easy to find with decent car park. Friendly welcome from Angus who showed us to our room. The room was spacious with high ceiling but well appointed and cosy. A large bathroom very clean. The bed proved very comfy and breakfast fresh cooked not overpriced great stay
Great local pub, not too far from the city centre. Has lots of original features. Serves a good selection of beers and also serves food. Staff are friendly and helpful.
We stayed there 9/2/2023 for 3 nights stayed in the apartment nice and spacious but lacking a microwave as there was no meals on site except for breakfast what I don't and cant eat, so had to get food in and had to go out for meals. Staff was friendly if we asked for things we got them, beds were comfortable nice care park, dog friendly, not far from york centre what we liked, you can also walk by the river its a lovely walk would go again thankyou
Absolutely love this place, nothing is too much trouble. We visited with children and they were very welcome and accommodated for. Great location for the centre too. Will definitely return
Friendly staff , our room was clean and fresh . The 4 poster bed was wobbly, the mattress was ok slept like a log .. tea ,coffee & biscuits in our room 10 minute walk into town for the price we found our stay pleasant thank you
Decided on a last minute visit to York and found this great pub/restaurant with rooms situated above. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and well appointed. The best thing was the price, which was easily one of the cheapest in town and the fact they offer free parking! Less than 10 minutes walk to the city walls. Definitely recommend!
Spent the night here 24/07/22. Was a friendly hospitable pub with great bar staff and regulars. The food cooked on site was spot on and the chef a credit to the premises. Clean and comfortable bed and room. I wont hesitate in coming back to this place. A proper pub stacked in history. Thanks Dan for a pleasant stay.
