For a cheap stay. Can't complain. Some minor faults that can be rectified easily/cheaply enough. But as a "just sleep n go" its fine. Short 10 minute walk into town and the sights around York. It said "may" have traffic on booking but unfortunately it's definitely heavy traffic from 6am to 10pm during week. Not a bother for me and half the price, than elsewhere. At the time, pub served no food but plenty eateries near by. The staff are on the phones a lot. The girls working are polite. I'm happy to help a small business, as our pubs are a dying breed now. April 2023 £34.50 a night. Rooms: They are not the greatest of quality but with some cheap fixes the room would be far better. The amenities in the room is absolutely fine. April 2023. Nearby activities: Within 10 minutes walk you have york castle and big york museam next to each other. The river allows for self drive boats or £35 for an hour. Or cruise at leisure from the Staithes on the river for £14 for 45 minutes. Town has great old buildings and good unique shops with the minster on the furthest side of town. Have a scare at york dungeons near the river £21 each, exceptional acting and interaction. April 2023. Safety: I felt no ill-ease but then I did not go out after dark. April 2023 Walkability: Just ten minute stroll into town with all the attractions around you in the same vicinity. April 2023 Food & drinks: Unfortunately at the time the victoria pub did not offer food on my stay. But there are plenty of eats near-by and in town. April 2023 Noteworthy details: Unfortunately the road junction the pub is on, is extremely noisey with old sash windows. Pedestrian walks beeping regularly. Traffic noise from heavy hgv vehicles, emergency sirens and loud motorbikes regularly. On average 6am through to 10pm every week day. April 2023
I think the landlady and staff want to put their phones down and start concentrating on how to deliver a good customer experience. Admittedly one of our party could have softened how she asked the barman to put his phone down however if he hadn’t been texting he wouldn’t have received such feedback. The landlady and staff became very rude and very aggressive. I’m a licensee and they displayed how not to deal effectively with customers feeding back.
Dirty with zero atmosphere. Stayed here last night for a Christmas treat to York - frosty welcome, the staff didn't even seem to want to bother with us and didn't respond to small talk. I ordered a breakfast but they didn't feel the need to tell us there was no food on until I asked. The room was dirty, couldn't even bring myself to make a cuppa. Bathroom and shower were filthy and mouldy. The only plus side was that the sheets were clean and it was very close to the barbican. Great location but the rest not so good, will not be returning.
Great experience! The staff, Steve and louise are great The only thing I didn't like was that the room was extremely hot. I mean, it was so hot that I woke up in the middle of the night because of it. It, however, its compensated by the cold beer offered at the bar right below, at a very decent and affordable price. Once option to stay in when visiting York. Would come back
I only went in for a few drinks with my friends and the people were very pleasant Nearby activities: The Victoria is in walking distance of castle museum and other activities Walkability: It is in walking distance of the city centre
The manager was very helpful, and the location was good. The rooms were good, but hot, and the property is on the corner of two busy roads, not good if your a light sleeper. It's not too far from the centre of York, which is great. Disappointed that there wasn't any food. Walkability: You need to be able to walk well, lots to see and do in York. There is a hop on, hop off bus, not too far away.
Great place and staff very friendly . Locality close to York centre Only small downside was they dont sell food But nice chinese and other places to eat about 5/ 10 minute walk away . Great bus service tho and pretty cheap .
Really nice guy who greeted us. Our twin beds were clean but not much else was. I kept my socks on all the time as the floor was in need of hoovering, looked grubby. The shower!! Kept my socks on still. Hair in the plug hole so only had 3 minutes to shower as water rose and was slow to drain away. Suited our purpose but won't return. Needs a good clean or refurbished!!
Excellent location and a great pub with live entertainment. Private off road parking which for this close to the centre of York is great. The rooms were very comfortable and very clean. When we got back to York we will definitely stay here again.Rooms: 4/5
The building had the looks but a warm welcome we did not receive. Would not return.Service: 3/5
