We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Marston Lodge, which is situated in a beautiful, quiet area of Minehead, high up North Hill and adjacent to St Michael’s Church. Our room had great views over the town, out to sea, and inland to Exmoor and the Quantock Hills. The room itself was comfortable, clean and spacious. Because of Covid restrictions, the hotel currently offers only a limited range of breakfast options, delivered to outside guests’ rooms. However, we prefer to make our own arrangements for breakfast, so we weren’t affected by the restrictions. We found the owners to be very kind and helpful. Although we had already planned our own walks and excursions, we appreciated the knowledgeable advice offered on local sights and places of interest.
Booking a few nights away for a birthday treat and wanted something different then a normal chain run hotel. I was drawn in by the great reviews and stunning photos, I had to see it for myself and I was not disappointed one bit. The rooms were huge, very comfortable and large bed. The views were stunning, one side the beach and ocean and to the other the mountains of Exmoor. Very close to everything around, with a host of restaurants moments away. Free car parking is a huge bonus! The host that looked after us during our stay was fantastic. He accommodated us with a change of room to allow us to have a larger bed Due to the height. Fantastic knowledge of everything around, which showed just how much passion he has for his home and area. Breakfast was fantastic. Fresh ingredients cooked with love. Working in a butchers for 13+ years I have become quite picky with Sausages and bacon and eggs, but hands down the best quality ingredients I've tasted in a hotel before. Everything cooked while your at the table and comes to you piping hot and the lovely shapped butter on the table was a lovely touch. A lovely section of cereals and breads and tea's to start your morning off. If you get the chance to stay here, I would advise to ask the Host for his secret map of Exmoor and all the wonderful places to see! Wonderful stay, wonderful hosts. I'd love to come visit again!!
what. a. view! but not only this - the place is gorgeous, the accommodations are very cozy, everything works perfectly and the style is positively charming. if I could, I'd give an extra star just for the breakfast: the best of all b&b's we experienced in the UK. the patron was always warm and helpful - our trip certainly would not have been the same without his local hints.
Our two rooms were spacious, cosy, bright and clean. The public areas were smart. Breakfast was great and you were able to make your own toast and tea just as you like it. The owner was keen that all his guests had everything they needed. It was great. We took a tour by car of Exmoor's countryside and villages mapped out by the hotel owner, which included high points and seaside accessed by some narrow roads and crossing two fords. The furthest points were the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth where we had lunch at the Coffee Mill and then took the Cliff Railway between the towns. It was a great day out!
We were recomended Marston Lodge. It's a great place to stay. Very clean. Alex is a superb host, going out of his way to help. Comfy bed and eclectic / tasteful decor. Freshly cooked breakfast was delicious. Beautiful views, and further up the road is the national trust park, with amazing 360 degree panoramic wonderfulness! Would definitely stay again
Fantastic establiment. I myself am not normally a purveyor of Bed and Breakfasts, but this one changed my opinion on them. The service was the best I've experienced at ANY hospitality establishment. Your Travelodges/Premier Inns/Ibis' feel sterile and cold in comparison. The views are magnificent. The whole of Minehead, the Atlantic and Exmoor can be seen based half way up a hill. You are also given a map with a clearly defined route to visit all the attractions from Minehead to Lynmouth to Exmoor and back. The gentleman host clearly has an encylopedic knowledge of his craft and this area. Use them if you're stuck for ideas of what to do. The building has a lot of interesting features and character. The breakfast was filling and the showers were powerful. And there's free parking. And I had two good nights sleep. I didn't require much more personally from my stay. Highly recommended.
Hotel very welcoming and friendly and great place for couples to stay. The owner gave us a map with a tour after asking us what we were doing that day and the driving tour was fantastic and would highly recommend people ask him for a tour as saw secret exmoor and would never have seen some of the places otherwise. This hotel was perfect for us for a romantic weekend away and would highly recommend it, we will definitely be back again soon.
Loved it! Beautiful old house with incredible views with a picturesque view of the whole town from the windows! The owners were very welcoming and keen to give us tips, which is always nice. If you ever need anything they’re happy to help and accommodate. Not sure why others complain about the owners, maybe they’re just moody! : Comfortable, character and clean. Great value for money also. Thanks again.
A very disappointing hotel that gets worse from locals. Spending time around the beautiful town of Minehead. I found local independent shops very welcoming and talkative, i've been informed that this hotel operator seems not to support local businesses and seems to have set up a campaign to destroy what makes Minehead special from other coastal towns. A big thank you to the locals for giving me a list of better hotels and B&Bs.
Just OK, nothing that great, nothing too bad either. They kept chicken for eggs when I stayed, and the crowing starts at 4.30 am in the summer, at first break of dawn. Closing the windows helps the noise, but doesn't help with the heat. Good breakfast, nice location on a residential road, good views from balcony. Owner comes across as patronising at times. Not sure if he is aware of this. For this reason, I would not return.
