Story

Set in a unique riverside location near Marlow, Buckinghamshire, Longridge provides a range of exciting water sports and land-based activities aimed at young people of all abilities. As well as 12 acres of beautiful water meadows we have our own island, 'Taylor Island' for the ultimate swallows and amazons experience. Taylor island also gives us a sheltered backwater in which young people can experience the river with confidence.

85,000 young people will visit our world-class facilities this year and Longridge boasts a proud 50 year history and an excellent safety record. Our visitors range from schools and youth groups to individuals and corporate clients not to mention the Women’s Olympic Rowing Team and GB Kayaking Teams.

Longridge is run by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers and paid staff. We are approved by the BCU (British Canoe Union), RYA (Royal Yacht Association) and British Rowing. As well as AALA, Bucks County Council, Duke of Edingburgh Award and we are a recognised Olympic Training Centre. Each year we run a large number of courses ranging from beginner skills right through to advanced coaching and instruction.

We have a range of facilities including well equipped accommodation for all needs, from camping to bunk house accommodation and indoor meeting, conference and training spaces.

Longridge helps young people from all walks of life and abilities to develop water skills as well as leadership, self-discipline, confidence and respect. We rely on donations to expand and improve our site.

"Longridge Activity Centre is a charity run outdoor adventure centre that provides the opportunity for 80,000 young people to take part in activities and experience the magic of the Thames and its beautiful surrounds. In reality that number is probably actually much higher than 80,000, as our official visitor count only includes those that attend Longridge run activities – and Longridge offers so much more than just that!We also provide an incredibly affordable home for the rowing clubs of three local schools, the local canoeing club, and fencing clubs. Not forgetting acting as a base for Marlow FM to broadcast from, in a studio they converted from our old toilets! We pride ourselves on being a hub for community activity."

Terrible accommodation, my son was on a school trip. Girls had mattresses and boys slept on metal. I have shown photos, and you will see the difference between the girls and the boys accommodation. Food was poor and not any choice. Sandwich, packet of chrisp and one chocolate hardly a substantial lunch considering they were active all day. There were no other snacks or healthy options throughout. Dinner, was just as bad. Kids were hungry especially the boys. Toilet doors broken and restriction on water if the class showered. I would not recommend your child stay here. Over priced for what it is. You’d be better taking your child camping yourself!
My daughter had a fantastic Holiday Activity Day camp yesterday! She came out beaming and told me all about the kayaking, bell boats and climbing to name just a few of the activities she did. She went with a friend and also made new friends. The instructions beforehand are very detailed and thorough which makes preparing beforehand very easy. My daughter loved the lunch and we packed a few extras in case as suggested as she can be picky. The safeguarding measures in place are excellent and very reassuring when you’re leaving your child somewhere for the day. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Drop off and pick up were very smooth and fast. Thank you for a wonderful day - we will be rebooking next year!
My son attended for a school trip - absolutely loved his stay, clean and tidy site with comfortable beds - no idea what Helen J's review is all about. He came back begging to book activities days at Longridge. Staff were friendly and well trained.
My son had a wonderful week at Longridge for his Year 6 residential, and I can't recommend it highly enough! From start to finish, it sounds like the experience was packed with exciting activities and it certainly provided him with a host of once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.nnAccording to my son, the instructors were all incredibly friendly and approachable, which really made a difference. He was able to build meaningful relationships with them, and it's fantastic for the children to have such positive role models. They encouraged my son to have a go at everything, from climbing to kayaking, creating a supportive environment where he felt safe to push his limits.nnIt's heartwarming to see how much my son embraced the challenges, and he came back full of stories about the adventures they had. He made memories that I know will last a lifetime, and it's a joy to hear him reminisce about his favourite moments.nnA massive thank you to all the staff at Longridge who work tirelessly to ensure that each child's experience is first-class. Your dedication shines through, and we are grateful for the unforgettable week you provided for our son!
Longridge is such a fantastic facility and one that I would recommend everyone uses both adults and children alike. They run amazing holiday camps for children, which include different and exciting activities much more exciting that your bog standard holiday camps. They give a great lunch, offering a balanced meal and encouraging all children to eat the fruit and healthy options available.nI have sent my 5 year old daughter multiple times and recommend it regularly to other parents I know. The children are so well looked after and come home shattered and it’s so reasonably priced - what more could you ask for!
