Had a wonderful stay in the family room recently. Brilliant service throughout the week, especially from Thomas, who went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. The breakfast was fabulous and the service every morning was exceptional! Thankyou to all the wonderful staff for making us feel so welcome at the Jesmond Dene House Hotel. 5 stars from me & my girls
Had our wedding reception here in June. We booked one of the smaller rooms for a 3 course lunch. Food and location were nice but service was poor. There was no one other than the reception staff around to greet us when we arrived and the reception just asked if we knew where we were going and vaguely pointed in the dircetion of the room. Not everyone knew where the room was so there was a bit of confusion. We'd pre ordered food but they'd got some of the place cards wrong so one guest had to wait a long time for his starter. No apology / acknowledgement from the staff. There was only 1 server who was tricky to get hold of when he wasn't serving food. We generally didn't feel very well looked after. Then when it came to settle up our server had disappeared so we had to go searching for someone to bring us the bill/help us out with a few bits find the cake box etc. We had to ask multiple people so it took a while to sort everything out. I should say that the event staff were pretty good in the lead up to the meal. They were pretty well organised and spent some time explaining the set up. Just a shame that the serving staff were not up to the same standard. All in all not terrible but I expected better service when spending so much money.
The grounds are well kept and beautiful, despite only being a few hundred yards from the main road. The architecture is well preserved and blends with the newly constructed buildings. We attended for breakfast and this did not live up to the same standard as the beauty of the property. The french toast was undercooked and runny in the centre, resulting in half being left. The poached eggs were more firm than runny, and the toast on the table was cold by the time the breakfasts arrived. Service was generally slow despite a quiet day, and staff failed to notice that over half a plate of food was left untouched for more than 20 minutes. The continental breakfast had a good selection, although pastries were a mixture of hot and cold. When checking online we opted for breakfast due to the lack of vegetarian or vegan options for afternoon tea online. When we were waiting to be seated we noticed separate vegetarian and vegan afternoon tea menus which were not visible online. Overall, as this is my first visit, I feel this may have been an off day, as I hope and expect for the prices charged at this venue the service standards are usually significantly greater. Food & drinks: Undercooked french toast, cold toast, nice vegetarian breakfast.
We had two nights there. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was nice and the hotel was clean. The hotel overlooks Jesmond Dene and us in very well maintained grounds. The inly thing that I would say is that I would rate it as a 3 star hotel, not 4 star. There was no inside pool.or gym, but you could have access to a health club down the road. The entrance to thd car park has big potholes that need fixing.
Beautiful old house in a prime location. Interior ambience is spot on. Plenty of parking. 2x EV charging at 11kw 3 phase available next to reception - web based payment works ok but very costly at £1 per kWh! Breakfast options are good but service seemed very slow for cooked options. Rooms stylish, comfortable and clean.
My recent dining experience at this restaurant was extremely disappointing. The atmosphere upon entering was unwelcoming, with unwelcoming vibes that persisted throughout the evening. Service was lackluster; our waiter seemed disinterested and preoccupied with socializing with his co-workers rather than attending to guests. The food was not only overpriced but also served cold, lacking in both flavour and presentation. Adding to the frustration, the manager displayed rudeness and obnoxious behaviour towards every customer he interacted with. Overall, I strongly advise diners to seek alternatives and avoid this establishment. There are plenty of other dining options that offer better quality food and service. Rooms: Filthy & smelly. Food & drinks: Overpriced and mediocre. Noteworthy details: Obnoxious manager, overpriced food & terrible atmosphere.
Amazing hotel. I was not here long enough to find out the history of this place. My room was up in the old servants quarters behind a hidden door. Was a great room, the apartment, had a massive bathroom, marvellous bed and a terrace with turrets. The breakfast was great. Well cooked. I had some soup when I arrived and that was also very good. Staff were attentive and felt looked after. And the building, with gardens, minstrel galleries and an old wooden panelled rooms. Well worth the visit.
Went with my daughter in law and grandkids for her birthday afternoon tea . The staff and food were amazing. The grounds and terrace were immaculate I will definitely be going back again .Service: 5/5
Came here for a wedding evening reception, it was absolutely beautiful! Lovely views, amazing service, all round amazing night!Rooms: 5/5
The hotel is lovely and full of character. The lounge and relaxing areas are decorated beautifully and the fireplaces make everything cosy and warm! We visited on a Saturday lunch time with a friend to have afternoon tea at Fern dining room and bar. Our table was overlooking the back gardens and it was so pretty. The staff was friendly and welcoming and even though you get a time slot when making reservation we didn’t feel rushed to order or finish with our tea! The scones were still warm and fluffy, the sausage rolls perfectly seasoned, the sandwich bread soft and fresh and the desserts exquisite! Loved the carrot cake and the Victorian sponge cake as well as the rhubarb macaron! The gardens surrounding the hotel are stunning and worthy of a long walk to enjoy the nature. Would definitely recommend!
