Euro star has gone down hill in the last few years, but still be sure to book the larger seats in standard premier as they are worth the extra price. There is no more welcome drink bubbly as they used to serve, and no hot food : Sadly the food has taken a real hit and is now a tiny portion of cold rabbit food.nnThe buffet cart in standard class has better food than standard premier which makes no sense. Dont't book business unless your company is paying, its not worth the extra price as the seat is the same as standard premier, but with slightly better food.nnInstead, be sure to stock up on M&S food at the station before your journey and enjoy on the train. M&S food will be 100 times better than the food they serve you on the train. Too be honest, they should just ditch the food altogerther or raise the price a bit and serve something hot and half decent, as at the moment they have just got it wrong wrong wrong.nnThey also rush the service now. Instead of a nice two hour slow service, you get your wine, water, tea/ coffee and all your food in the first 30 minuets of the journey. For the next few hours of the journey, you get nothing. No service, drinks or food. Its so so bad compared to how it used to be, but can still be enjoyed with the above advice.
The train is great, fast, has comfy seating, and is spacious with free wifi. You can also enjoy the outside view. However, the experience inside the station is bad. Very long lines and no drop-off luggage service. So if you have many luggages, better to use the plane
I love the eurostar trains and the connections throughout Western Europe, but the situation in the London station is atrocious. They want people to arrive 45min before departure... you're not even allowed in -30min before departure. Yet they don't have the capacity to handle it. Every single day hundreds of travelers are sitting on the ground or standing cramped up waiting for the train. This has been going on for years. There's just no will to optimise the process.
An experience near had before. Highest speed limit is 300 km/h 186 mph. But while inside the tunnel there is no jerking or even anybody could feel that it is moving. An unique technology marvel. Inside the tunnel full of light and seems standing still.
Used the Eurostar service twice in the last couple of months. To Paris and to Brussels. Prior to that had been 10 years…nnBooking very straightforward, but the in-station experience at St Pancras is all a bit chaotic and unpleasant - obviously in part due to Brexit, but also more a result of Eurostar’s failure to use its Kent stations, forcing everyone to bottleneck at St Pancras.nnThere’s no real queuing space at St Pancras, so you just sort of hover in the terminal and then surge for the gates. Beyond security, the space is too small, so crowded - there is a Pret though.nnOn board, the trains are good refurbished and generally very efficient. Travel Standard Premier and you get a small meal as part of the package.nnThe terminal at Paris is ok, seemed to have more space than St Pancras. The Brussels terminal is awful, with dingy, overcrowded seating area and then a bizarre queue through the middle of a shop….nnOverall, getting a train to the continent is still much better than flying, but the standard has slipped a bit since I last used it. Capacity at St Pancras is a very obvious issue that needs addressing in particular.nnThe addition of through trains to Amsterdam is a nice touch. Would like to see Cologne join that list eventually.
