We were a party of 12 for a birthday. 2 vegetarians and a vegan. They were extremely accommodating. 4 of us chose to share the set menu and the waiter went through to make all the dishes suitable for our needs. Lots of food and not too expensive. Would have been 5* but some of the meat eaters said a few of the dishes lacked seasoning and would have liked more bread.

Some parts of the tapas were good, others not so good, the lamb meatballs were strange, 1/4 of them tasted really good and had a great texture the other 3 where mushy and flavourless as if they were yesterday's. The calamari was great, perfectly cooked and seasoned so was the garlic mushrooms and the chorizo cooked in white wine. It seemed like the dishes can be hit and miss maybe it depends on the time you go as we went fairly early in the day before it got busy. The house white wine was good and would recommend that, as well as the strawberry gin and tonic.

I've visited El Coto in Durham but was quite drunk so didn't really remember it. We went on Friday night after a few after work drinks in Newcastle. We expected it to be packed but there was a table to accommodate the five of us. We got drinks quickly then looked at the menu. There's so much choice. We ordered three plates eachband there was loads to go around. I tried chicken skewers, deep fried salmon, and pork chicken and chorizo rice. It was lovely. I also tried the tomato chicken, chorizo sausage, roast lamb, potatoes with tomato, and peppers. It was all really nice.

We've been regulars here for years...very friendly, attentive staff and delicious, genuine tapas at a good price. One of Newcastle's best eateries....recommended.
