Love the large red stone masonry cobble stone road, new modern walkway and lighting downward facing led lights historical buildings irons work old station clock. Worth a visit.
A rather nice station providing frequent services to and from lime street. Interesting boards with information regarding the history of the station. Platforms seem to show their age and could do with some TLC.
It's a grim place especially at 5:45 AM the clock on the main building has been there since Stephenson's Rocket and I think gas lighting would be brighter than what they use now. There is no electronic notice boards to tell you train information, If your imagining that episode of Sapphire & Steel where they're stuck in the station with the ghosts of soldiers your there ! No lifts for disabled passengers, no toilets. I believe it once had a roof on many years ago as it was built before Lime Street Station. Since I posted this I travelled from Edge Hill the other day and there are now train travel times displayed on computer screens in the platform passenger shelters, so that's a big improvement. Three and a half stars now.
Very rude man in ticket office. 1st day in area, 1st time in station going to Manchester, 6.15 am, pitch black, no signs to say which platform is which, no electronic display signs to announce destination of trains, so I could work out which platform I needed for myself. Man on phone in ticket office, chatting. When asked which platform do I need he sweeps his arm in front of him 'round there' whilst still chatting. I go 'round there' and only find a padlocked Gate - perhaps he means go back to the road and there's another entrance on the other side of the road?? Worried I'd miss my train, I go back in 'where sorry?'. 'ROUND THERE!! Throwing arms wildly around whilst still chatting. I go back outside in pitch black certain I'd miss my train. A lovely customer came past and gave me the directions I needed because the gate the guard was trying to get me to use was padlocked. Apparently, an alternative route was round the back of the office. Perhaps you could have signposts or electronic signs if you can't find helpful or pleasant staff?
The oldest continually running passenger station in the world! And wouldn't you know it. There are no information screens and no messages over the PA system so make sure you've already researched which platform you need for your train.
Tried to get a train home to Wavertree Technology Station at 5.30 pm today, Thursday 15/11/18. What a big mistake!!! The first thing I noticed was no electronic board showing arrival of trains at what platforms. In the case of Edge Hill at least 5 to choose from!! Looking at the written display boards I could only see details of in bound trains. After 3 people asked me the same question I was asking myself, IE - Am I on the right platform for my train? I became really worried, and after waiting 30 mins decided to leave and got a taxi home.
I bought 2 single tickets by self tickets machine in Edge Hill Station. I paid for them, but the machine didn't give me the tickets. I had to buy 2 tickets again in the office and I tried to take my money back with no luck. I want my money!!!¡ I feel robbed by this company.
Full of history, but not amenities, however lots to see if you are a rail enthusiast, and that's why I was here
I remember going past without stopping in this station, on an East Midlands train. And what I've saw from this station looks rather good and interesting
Needs refurbishment like extended platforms ect and more trains stopping here like avanti West coast, transpennine
