The food was just wonderful! The duck spring roll was the best I've ever had, and the prawn soup had a real depth of flavour along with carefully balanced spicing. The staff were brilliant. The room decor is a bit minimalist and the lights are very bright - not right for a romantic dinner for two, maybe, but otherwise fine. We'll definitely be back.
Went here for a 50th birthday party with a large group of about 50. They couldn't handle the numbers took an age to deliver food, which had clearly been put in a microwave as it had cling film stuck to it! Half of it was cold too! There was also a row over the bill with the birthday boy, which was disgusting. I've given it 2 stars because they have a decent selection of music, and as we can all sing, we enjoyed that very much. Wouldn't go back though, amateurish business.
Great experience, food in Sugar Palms exceptional. We 8 had a great evening. Thai food at its best. Lovely staff. Car park behind the Ship pub, the restaurant directly opposite. Entrance upstairs. Best restaurant that has been in Chelmsfords West End. This place deserves to do well.
Been there a couple of times with the girls, always a good laugh to be had. Food was good, our hors d'oeuvres platter was yum! Reasonably priced, clean and rooms/karaoke systems are great. The owner Sam is very accommodating and ensured plans that suited us were put in place. Convenient cheap parking just across the road, if full, there's a few roadside parking just round the corner. A fantastic place to hang out in groups for a fun evening, celebrations or corporate events.
The food was really nice, although for the price we did have to ask for more as the initial servings were a bit 'lean' for 8 people @ £20 pp. The karaoke rooms are a great idea and the song selection is vast. Probably need better sound-proofing though as I could hear our groups singing from the restaurant!
We used to go to this karaoke bar before it had been taken over and the food was just average. It is just so delicious now it is the Thai restaurant, thought I have to share this information. Our set menu for the karaoke room had so much variety dont think I could have ordered better and they were very flexible with it for dietary requirements. Few of us veggie, few only had halal meat and they even had a halal range. Normally the food is not good enough to waste precious singing opportunities over but this time I did stop singing to eat a few times...much to my friends delight I am sure. We are keen to back for karaoke as the rooms seemed a bit nicer now and also to go back to the restaurant bit on it's own. We ate in the room and didn't feel any difficulty with that. Hope this helps and hope the chef stays.
Would absolutely recommend to groups of friends and family for work dos, stag or hen dos, and birthday parties. Alcohol is limited in variety but made up for by the great prices. The staff were very friendly. We had a VIP room with a karaoke machine. Food was good, but came out far too slowly.
I was disappointed as it was my sister-in-law's birthday party. There was a function in another room and people from there kept coming into our room to use the bar, even during speeches. The food was good but drinks very expensive. Also there is no car park at the restaurant and as the car park across the road was full we had to park near the bus station and walk to the venue. On the positive side the restaurant staff were very helpful.
By far the greatest chinese in the area, I travel down from Sawbridgeworth to eat at Crystal Palace most Friday nights and will continue to do so for some time. The food is always amazing and great value for money. The staff are welcoming, friendly and help create a great atmosphere around the whole restaurant. I would recommend it to anyone.
The place is now called Sugar Palm and is a Thai restaurant. Food was okay, but nothing too impressive. One of my friends found a hair in her curry but staff were prompt and replaced her meal almost immediately.
