Had heard great things about this restaurant but what a disappointment our meal turned to be! There were 14 of us eating and at least half of us had a problem with one of our courses. Mine was the dessert! Chocolate Bread and Butter Pudding. Simply awful. On a positive note the staff were very friendly and the service was great but sadly I won't be returning or recommending to friends.
Disappointed. Nothing wrong with the food but nothing special either. Overpriced, over-hyped but under-delivered. I like a restaurant to be busy with lots of chatter but in this case it was just too noisy. I think it has something to do with hard floors and furniture. Staff were helpful and very friendly. There are plenty of restaurants in and around Chelmsford that, in my opinion, offer much better value for money.
The atmosphere wasn't cosy at all, felt much more of a lunch place than first dinner. The service was okay but the waitresses could be better trained. The bread and starters were nice, we had the scampi and rice balls however after having the duck pasta for mains it left me feeling quite sick afterwards and the meal was very average. Will not be returning
It was a pretty bizarre experience. I went when they were newly opened, the team was very unorganised, not particularly unhelpful or anything, but they all seemed uncomfortable. The food was very medicore. My partner had the beetroot salad, it had about 5 slithers of beetroot on the plate along with a basic olive oil dressing that wasn't even well balanced against the oil's bitterness. I had the lamb which was alright, but there was more flavour in the potatoes. The deserts and giant glass of grappa are the only reason it's redeemed to 2 stars. Lastly, the seating arrangement is completely bonkers. I know the idea is supposed to be a nice Italian cafe with a deli on the side but in reality it just makes for awkward eating on the tiny tables. I'd wholly recommend you skip Carluccio's and go to Jamie's or Zizzi. Both are cheaper, tastier and overall more enjoyable.
Great service and surroundings. Carluccio's carbonara is something special. The bacon pieces are tasty and the sauce far more eggie than we are used to in UK restaurant s. It was delicious. I had Italian cheese selection to follow. Try it the menu is extensive but not fussed. Great food lovely environment. I'm sure you will enjoy.
This is not a horrible restaurant don't get me wrong, I just felt that for my family with 3 young kids it was expensive and I would have found it easier with a little more choice on the kids menu... keeping it a bit more simple... Normal garlic bread rather than a more fussy type with pesto which I wasn't prepared for then my son couldn't eat! I think perhaps I'm just not fancy enough for this restaurant give me pizza express or Prezzo with my kids anyday
Had a delicious lunch here 5th September 2016. Waitress Melissa was friendly, professional and efficient. Manager was Aga and Head chef Mateuz. I had the bruschetta, followed by the chicken polonaise and for dessert panna cotta. Every course was delicious and flavoursome. Had the fixed price menu 2 courses £11.99 or 3 for £13.99, very good value. The panna cotta was the best one I've had, a real depth of flavour that I haven't had in other Carlucci's I had eaten in. Almost every table was being used for the lunch service. There was a general hubbub of chatter, but that added to the atmosphere. We sat by the window and had a view of the town hall and pedestrians including a wedding party. Toilets on the upper floor were clean and single rooms rather than cubicles. Good selection of wine. I would thoroughly recommend and will definitely be going again.
I've been eating Carluccios for years and have always loved it however Chelmsford is poor compared to others. Focaccia bread was awful, they were out of Carbonara and the Ravioli was under cooked. The only reason I have given it 2 stars was because the waitress was lovely and tried hard bless her.
After driving 130 miles and looking forward to a lovely breakfast with my family I was left with nothing but disappointment. It was 12pm, asked for the breakfast menu which they assured me they serve all day, we ordered and we're told as it's coming up to lunch it may take a while. 45 min later still no brekki. When it finally came 50 minutes later it was cold, my poached eggs were rock hard didn't get the tea coffee or juice that came with the brekki till we asked for it. Didn't dare send my food back incase it took another 50 min. ate half of it paid and left. Disappointed.
Sorry, but service was so slow, did not have my drink order, it took 3 hours to have one main course, free coffee was given and an apology. My sister had finished her meal by the time mine had arrived. Did not come over to take dessert order so had to chase up the free coffee. We will not be back again. And there were only 8 tables to serve. Very disappointed.
