Perfect walking country on the Pennine Way

Our Crowden Club campsite enjoys a remote location at the northern end of the Peak District National Park. The area is a walker’s paradise and our campsite reflects this. It has a well-stocked shop selling the basics and farm fresh eggs. In addition to shower and toilet facilities, Crowden campsite has a drying room – a useful addition for backpackers and cycle campers.

From the campsite, walkers can indulge in a gentle stroll along footpaths or stride out on a stretch of the long-distance Pennine Way. The nearby Longendale Trail follows the former Woodhead railway from Hadfield to the Woodhead Tunnels and enjoys stunning views over Torside Reservoir.

North West of Crowden the pretty Chew Valley with its reservoirs, rivers and canals provides some of the region’s best walks. Mountain biking, sailing and horse riding is also possible here as well as fishing in the canals.

There are plenty of places to visit from the campsite too. Howden and Ladybower Reservoirs, south east of the campsite are where the Dam Busters was filmed. Or head north to Holmfirth, the town known as the location for the TV series Last of the Summer Wine, looks out over the spectacular Holme Valley. The magnificent Chatsworth House and Gardens and Chatsworth Farmyard and Adventure Playground near Bakewell are a great family day out. Just north of here is the famous plague village of Eyam. Eyam Moor above the village is great for walking. There’s more wide open space and romantic landscapes to enjoy at the National Trust’s Marsden Moor Estate north of Crowden campsite.

Leave the peace and quiet behind and in an hour’s drive you can enjoy the shopping and entertainment options of Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield.

Beautiful site in a wooded area not far from a very busy road that can't really be heard. Lovely walks with the dog and stunning peaceful early morning views. Only downside is midges. There is no phone or Internet signals so it is a real get away opportunity.
Very friendly and helpful nice walks from campsite the only thing is there is no phone signal or Internet. No tv but you can hire a satellite wire for £1 per night. Restrooms: Very clean but only two showers. Dog-friendliness: Plenty of places doggy walks Picnic area: Tables and benches set around the site
We love using this lovely site, always found it to be quiet & relaxing. Great jump off point for walking, hiking or just getting to other surrounding attractions like National Trust site. Good quality pitches, some you will need your levelling ramps. Site facilities are kept clean to a good standard
Beautiful well kept site. In a fantastic area for walking. Everyone in the office where extremely helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough for us on our arrival and during the course of our stay
Never stayed here, I just park up & go walking from carpark, ideal for those who have motor homes or caravans & want to explore the Peaks, though I wouldn't camp near the filtration area, I've walked past & it wasn't bad
Friendly staff, plenty of slots for camping. Toilet and shower facilities were good and looked fairly recently refurbished. Only downside was that the road noise is extremely loud if you get placed at the bottom of the campsite, I’m sure it’s fine if you’re in a caravan but if you’re in a tent you’ll definitely hear it. Overall good experience and it’s well located for hikers and backpackers.
Absolutely wonderful managers very helpful always willing to help. The only thing I would say is as my husband is disabled he couldn't have access to getting the water tap on his mobility scooter because of the loose gravel. As he can't walk very far he likes to help out. But it is a wonderful place ideal for rambling and camping.
Beautifully positioned in a valley. Walks for the beginners and the experienced hikers starting locally. Be careful of the very busy road outside the campsite, I wouldn't recommend going right from park entrance along the road. Over the road is a lovely walk where you can enjoy the waterways. Staff very friendly and helpful. Facilities kept in excellent condition. Pitches are well spaced. If your looking for peace and quiet , perfect, maybe not so good for families with young children didn't spot a play area, no local shops.
Stopped just to use the toilet facilities, but stayed for a little while to look at the lovely views
