Absolutely lovely experience. Strongly recommend the visit. Just a few things to bear in mind: it's very hot in the butterfly "enclosure/green house". Careful where you walk in the butterfly enclosure as there might be caterpillars, butterflies or terrapins on the floor. Best time to visit is on otter feeding times as the keeper talks about them and we can see them around. The total visit can be done in about 2 hours but with feeding will take about 3. Free car park. Thank you for your hard work with them.
Excellent attraction to visit. Staff who run it are very knowledgeable about all of the different species of otters that are in the sanctuary. Very informative talks provided at each of the habitats at feeding times. The indoor butterfly greenhouse is also lovely. Very pleasant to walk around with all of the butterflies fluttering around your head.
Myself and my partner were fortunate enough to take part in an Otter Experience on Friday. We were accompanied by the wonderful and VERY knowledgeable Aimee, who made an already incredible experience just that bit more fantastic! All of the staff there are so helpful and welcoming. The experience itself was unforgettable and totally unique to this location. Being inside the enclosure, hand feeding the otters was amazing! If you love otters as much as my other half, or even just find them hella cute, I would absolutely recommend making a trip to Buckfast Butterflies & Otters. Thank you so much for the best experience ever! Worth every penny and so much more!
Went for an otter experience for my friend's 21st birthday and it turned out being the best day! Very nice staff and adorable otters, the rain didn't spoil any of it! We even had the chance to have a close look of the babies! Thank you for having us, we will come back to see the butterflies!
Great little butterfly farm and otter sanctuary. They had a large amount of different species and a lot of educational material around. The price for an adult is just below £10 for all day entry. It's a short stop from the A38 and you can have a coffee and cake at the railway cafe next to it. Only wish it was bigger!
The butterfly farm is beautiful, there were poles of chrysalis chrysali? chrysalises?, which at first I thought were models and then some started moving and we could watch the butterflies emerge. The otter farm was great and we got there at feeding time. The attendant was very informative and helpful. The whole experience is self funding and well worth the £10 entry fee.
Been here twice and loved it both times. It was even better this time around as you are now allowed around the butterfly enclosure. The otters are soooo cute, try and time your visit with one of the feeding times as this is when you get to know more about the otters.
Probably the best place to see otters in the southwest. Most of the otters are rescues, but several are breeding so presumably happy. The keepers are knowledgeable and caring. The butterfly plus iguana and terrapin collection is another attraction, and you might see a steam train in the background.
Best one for butterfly watching, kids were surprised to see the butterflies hatching, lots & lots of tortoise, you can spots different types of them flying around you and landing on you if you are lucky enough One big iguana-really amazing Otters -nice to see them playing around/water playing/safe to watch Can enjoy the steam train Free parking ?? Washrooms at railway station Free parking Additionally can walk along the river/ bath/enjoy the railway park/kids play area I wish if the butterfly shelter was bigger than it was. Entry <10£ per adult, quite pricey-but worth support the garden-
Lovely place to visit. Right next to the steam train. Wish I'd known about joint tickets before I booked! Saw lots of butterflies and feeding the otters 1130. You can come and go all day as you please.
