My wife and I were in Ford for the weekend and are so pleased we came across this little gem for our Saturday night dinner. The food was delicious, fantastic wine and Giles was a brilliant host. What a wonderfully British experience. We can't wait to visit again soon!
The food here is excellent. The high standard of service and humour from Giles led us to drop off our bikes where we were staying and hike back for dinner. We were very glad we did. We had a brilliant night. There are pub games like shut the box and shove ha'penny. A lovely beer garden. The place itself is well cared for and the locals are very friendly. Go to this pub.
Came across this charming place quite by chance, and it's a real gem, with an excellent well-chosen menu, and some fine real beers. Orchestrated by Giles, the charming host with a ready wit, the overall effect is of a village pub on the rise. Check out the home-made sausage and mash, and the "fried chicken with attitude" from the talented chef, and you'll get the picture. Just go!
I think this pub must be under new management because it is not what it once was! We went on a Saturday night after booking although the bumbling gentleman on the other side of the phone managed to accidently put me on mute twice! We need not book as we were the only ones eating there, on a Saturday night!! The atmosphere was dier. We looked at the menu and it was limited and basic pubby type food which has changed some what from what it used to be, they may do this well but we were went for a birthday so wanted something better quality. The drinks selection was poor we asked for a couple of usual wines and they didnt have either and beer was flat. We ended up abandoning this and went to the Foxham Inn instead and had a lovely meal. It just isn't the same as it was and that was disappointing for us.
Proper country pub, with a surprisingly good chef in the kitchen doing a small menu of delicious and interesting pub food. It makes no attempt to be a fancy gastropub, much more down to earth, but the food is probably better and the landlord, Giles, provides a wealth of entertaining banter.
The atmosphere and service were good. The menu sounded interesting on paper but the execution was average. I had the squid pie with Asian spices, but the pastry was too thick and there were very few squids in it. Same with the pies ordered by my friends.
Great pub, quirky landlord. The atmosphere is as a pub should be, and the food good. Giles, the landlord, is a bit Marmite, in that you'll really like him or possibly not. We're in the former camp. It is worth going for the badinage.
A good menu with a large specials board which is mainly fish. Good friendly effecient service. Real ales and good wine too. Have been to this venue several times and always had a superb meal. Will definitely be returning too.
Now that the new landlord is settled, this pub has returned to being a proper country pub. Sunday lunch was particularly good with non mushy veg even at 2 o'clock and perfectly cooked beef.
I've been here for a drink a couple of times. The atmosphere is nice, and not too expensive. They have a good provision for people with wheat intolerances - a separate menu is available if you ask.
