Wow what a beautiful place, we visited today for lunch and it was delicious! We were all really pleased with our food & drinks. The staff are so lovely, very welcoming & friendly, nothing is too much Trouble for them and they’re all happy. I even got offered extra gravy! We were really were impressed and can’t wait to go back and take some friends.
Food was lovely, but a few teething issues as only open a week, but staff were friendly and the owner knew more work is required to make it run smoothly but great start. We will be back.
Fantastic evening meal before Christmas. Steak, fish and chips, burger all tasted lovely. Good portion sizes. Fully recommended. Drink selection good too.
My first visit since its reopening and I wasn't disappointed. Lovely ales...well it is a Wadworths pub. Friendly, helpful staff. Great food...and log fires. What more could you ask for?
I visited The Wellesley Arms on Sunday 16 August 2020 for lunch. I was with two other people. This was my first visit. I used Google Maps to find the pub, which was easy and led me straight to the right place. I parked in the car park - parking was easy. The pub comprises of a couple of medium sized dining areas with plenty of tables with full table service. The team were very friendly and welcoming and I had no issues - we got everything we expected in good time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I enjoyed breaded brie for my starter, a chilli con carne for my main course and a mango and pineapple cheesecake for desert. The starters and mains arrived hot, the food was well presented and tasted really good. There was a good selection of food and I found something that appealed to me easily. The food was good value for money, I paid around £30 for three courses and drinks. Overall I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely recommend this pub if you find yourself passing by.
Fantastic service and great atmosphere. I was part of a large group and despite being busy and not booking ahead they were more than happy to accommodate us. Food was really good as well.
We chose it for a family meet up being exactly half way between Bridgend and Windsor plus some good write ups. We liked the the place itself, the staff and the location. I would not call it a "gastropub" yet, more like a good, well run pub with a good choice of beers and some good grub.
24/12: Went for a few drinks with family and friends. Generally bad experience, thought a few of the staff were unwelcoming and unaccommodating. Personally not a fan of the bar area, with no proper chairs just stalls and small tables not being allowed in the rest of the pub for some reason, also dislike the walls being painted black, makes a real change from the open welcoming old Wellesley arms. Additionally I do think everything is a bit over priced for a local village pub. Following this experience I left a 2 star rating with no review text 25/12: I then returned with family on Christmas day for a few drinks, the bar was only open for 2 hours but happy as it was the only place in Sutton Benger open. The bar staff working made it clear they did not normally work behind the bar, however I found them to be very friendly, welcoming and apologetic about slightly slow service. We stayed in the back room where it was nicer as we sat at a normal table. I left feeling better about my experiences, thinking I might edit/add to my rating when I had time. 26/12: Again only place in the village open, so definitely happy I had somewhere to go for a drink with some other friends. While ordering our first round of drinks at the bar, the manager saw my name on my bank card a realised I had left the 2 star review 2 days before. Rather than ask me for some feedback or context to my poor review, he just called me rude and claimed they were very accommodating on the 24th and said he was surprised I bothered coming back. Not the welcoming pub owner you would expect in a local village pub. I left the bar with my drinks feeling very uncomfortable and unwelcome. As closing time neared we were approached by a lady who just continued to say to us “2 stars! 2 stars! 2 stars!” she then began to have a go at me, she said I should change my review to 5 stars, saying how ungrateful we were. This situation was extremely uncomfortable, I wasn’t once asked my opinion or reasonings behind my original 2 star rating, instead I was berated and made to feel as if I had done something wrong other than expressing my opinion in the form of a rating.
Great atmosphere, fab food, good service especially Harry.
Works Christmas lunch and thoroughly enjoyable,. Not the first time we have been which speaks volumes as to the high regard our MD has for the establishment, I am sure we will visit again. All staff have been very attentative and nothing ever too much trouble.
