Bannermans is a bar and venue located in the heart of historic Edinburgh. There is a cover charge of 5 pounds. However, I think the place is ok to have band playing there but it was a small place one of the underground vaults so I just don't think real loud music can do anyone any good and I really love music. So make sure you bring ear plugs when you go there so you can still enjoy music when you are old!

I spent a few hours here on a Monday. Beer is well kept. My only mute point was when I asked if I could request a song. The bar has control of what is played. Imagine the scene. 2 people in the whole bar. Lady behind the bar 'we don't take requests.......' Not said with any apologitic attitude. Was said with disdain. Really taken a back by the attitude. It was a Monday and I had 3 pints in an empty pub
Avoid at all costs if you’re a tourist. I never write reviews but I really feel the need to for this particular experience. Upon finishing our guided tour for the vaults we thought we’d call in for a quick drink before heading home as the bar looked nice from the outside. The ever so delightful bar man asked me for my ID I’m 29, In a jokingly manner I said “thanks for asking me I’m glad you asked as it’s been a while since Ive gotten asked for that” insinuating that I’m glad he asked and I take it as a compliment. As I said this he rolled his eyes, I handed him my ID and he then proceeded to take his wallet out showing his ID on the front and said “what do you want to see mine?” Handed me the ID and I thought maybe he was showing me it because we had the same name or birthday or something? Boy was I wrong. He snatched it back and said “see? That wasn’t hard was it?” Obviously insinuating I was being problematic by trying to have a bit of banter. After this he also proceeded to take ages pouring our drinks and taking the money as if on purpose. In total it was a 10 minute wait to make payment whilst he proceeded to talk to other people in the bar and ignoring us with our money ready to pay. It didn’t register to me what he did until I got the drinks otherwise I would have walked out. I’ve never been spoken to like that and very obviously stereotyped as I’m not a gothic/rocker which seems to be the vibe of people that go here which I have no problem with as I have many friends into that although clearly this bar man had a problem with me. Extremely distasteful attitude for being over 30 and I pity someone that treats people in such a way. We downed our drinks just to get out of there. Not a pleasant experience!!
Still one of my favourite venues to play. Great staff, great music, great vibe

Great staff, good atmosphere especially if bands are on. Our favorite pub in Edinburgh. I have mobility issues and I was given a chair, without any questions for the gig at the front xx
Been here loads of times for bands Venue recently updated the sound system Went to see Van Hailen on Saturday Van halen tribute act. I've seen these guys before and they're excellent but I only found out the previous Monday so I guess the promotion could be better but other than that a great night Talking to the band between sets made for a really good atmosphere Great night
Cosy pub with a brilliant live music venue attached. Street parking in adjacent streets.
