Visited today for the 1940s weekend. Well done guys, it was brilliant.nThe museum alone houses some fantastic collections.nFree entry, donations welcome. Tea room, small gift shop and toilets.
Well laid out museum with an interesting array of local history. The building it is housed in is an eye opener on how the wealthy lived in early 19c. It's also free.
A delightful visit to Bankfield Museum.nnDuring a day trip to Halifax, my daughter suggested we visit Bankfield Museum, and it turned out to be an absolute gem! We weren't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed our visit.nnThe highlight for us was the stunning display of Chris Mould's art—truly captivating. We also loved the fascinating exhibits on the Brontë sisters, Ted Hughes, and the history of the Duke of Wellington's regiment. The smaller displays showcasing Halifax’s local history were equally engaging. I even learned that both Quality Street chocolates and the inventor of Cats Eyes originated from this area—what a fun discovery!nnThe museum itself is spacious, well-laid out, and easy to explore at your own pace.nnUnfortunately, the fashion section was closed for refurbishment, which was a slight disappointment for my daughter. As for me… I can’t say I missed it too much nnOverall, Bankfield Museum is a wonderful place to visit, packed with history and charm. Well done to the team for creating such an enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!
This place is an hidden gem I remember my dad bringing me plus my brother n sisters back in the 90s before technology it’s how parents used to try and keep the kids entertained before technology/mobile phones / computers this was family time I think what kids could actually learn plus it’s free entry with a cafe with toilet facilities a truly amazing building with nice open grounds with all sorts of wildlife life living around the grounds so glad it’s kept well .The staff seem very warm friendly welcoming plus I n hand to answer any questions & on the grounds there are several paths leading to a peaceful walk .
Lovely building and interior with lots of interesting, varied exhibitions throughout all well labelled and informative. Regiment and shopping displays were my favourites but enjoyed it all and will be back. A real hidden gem- too good to be free, well worth a voluntary donation!
