Great museum located in the upper part of Wilton Park in Batley. It's got good exhibitions on Egypt, Africa, Asia and local interests. Nice place to bring children and then spend time in the park. There's a lovely gift shop and there's plenty of free parking. There's a nice down hill walk through woods to the lower park of part of Wilton Park, when you've finished your visit to the museum.
Unique place, very interesting halls with different themes. Egypt is a uniquely made hall, just like a tomb. it was an extraordinary experience for our whole family.
A local hidden gem. Definitely worth a visit. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Some really interesting artefacts inside and very fascinating history. The grounds are also well maintained and worth walking through. Check it out!
Me and my son came here for a visit, really good museum of different civilizations, Egyptian, African etc. Helpful staff, set in nice gardens too. Good for a free visit. Has a decent little gift shop too.
A wonderful little museum mainly about the local area of Dewsbury, Batley and Heckmondwike, a real hidden gem. I live in the area but have never been, they say you don’t do the tourist trail in your own area and sadly, that’s true as this museum is fab. Rooms dedicated to local dignitaries and famous building and places in the area. A room showing typical holiday destinations in the 19th century. Lots of information and stories from local people about living in the area. A beautiful interior. So glad we decided to explore on our doorstep
A special place. Wish it still had its Jungle section but the Egypt / Pyramid section still amazes me to this day.. Been going since I was 5-6 and now I'm 35. It.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Loved our visit to Bagshaw Museum. Not the largest of places but plenty to see and interact with. The staff were absolutely lovely, very friendly. Also visited the butterfly house whilst we were there and that was great too, run by volunteers who are clearly passionate. The woods on the grounds was fun to walk around and the children loved exploring. Highly recommended for a FREE day out.
Museum is nice and also free there is also kids activities to do in thereVisited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Museum closed due to the V. The garden next to the museum is worth it's weight in gold and is ripe for re-redevelopment back to the period Victorian Italianate garden that it is. Anyone with any sence should be able to see that this historical horticultural gem would draw restorstion funds from Heritage England and lottery funds ect. Creating 25 jobs.
How have I failed to visit this gem for so long? I've been to the park so many times but never been to the museum. Came for the first time and today with my daughter and was blown away by the place, its contents and above all the friendliness of all the staff. In the house we received a warm welcome and a brief introduction to where everything was and then in the recently reopened butterfly house a personal tour, a talk on various bugs, use of microscopes and more, the passion was evident. Clean, well laid out, full of content and free, we're lucky to have access to things like this and it deserves all the support we can give it.
