Yorkshire Museum of Farming

About

Located on the outskirts of York, the Yorkshire Museum of Farming is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the diverse agricultural history of the region from the first farming practices up to the mid-twentieth century and beyond.

Story

The Museum has closed for the Winter Season and will reopen March 31st 2018. Keep an eye out on here for updates on the exciting changes we shall be making to the museum in this time.

Also for those who can't stay away, we shall be once again running our Santa Special with our friends at the Derwent Valley Light Railway in December.

2018 is going to be a big year for us here at Murton Park with many events planned, which will included everything from tractors to Vikings!

Hopefully see you soon.

From the Murton Park Team!

Great day out. My children have Blue Peter badges that can be used for free entry. Also the tickets are valid for the whole year. Selection of farm animals ponies, chickens, goats, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs etc as well a play area, heritage railway and history based activities. We just did the Romans afternoon and my boys absolutely loved it. We had the whole Roman fort to ourselves! The staff are so friendly and helpful and gift shop is reasonably priced.
Myself and my 5 year old visited the park on a Saturday morning. Small and easily manageable distance from York on the way to Stamford Bridge. It was comfortably full but not packed. On the expensive side £26 for the two of us including the train ride, and all exhibits. The train however only runs on a Sunday. There are a few farm animals to see nothing to write home about. The farm machinery exhibition is OK on the inside but the outdoors is quite dishevelled. It also boasts the tiniest under 5s soft play area I've ever seen. Sadly, the roman Fort is mostly in disrepair, as is the little history of farming exhibit next to the play area. In all it's a fun day out for a coffee and sandwich while the kids play if you don't mind sitting at a broken picnic table- but that's it really. There are pubs with equally good play areas and better food without the hefty entry fee. In all, I wouldn't recommend.
We went for Medieval mayhem and loved it. The reenactment was good and fun and the actors/enthusiasts were very knowledgeable and happy to share their knowledge and answer any questions. The children tried sword fighting and archery and we all thoroughly enjoyed our day. It was our first visit and we'll definitely be back. So much still to explore.
Such good value with annual pass. We paid small additional amount for crafts and Easter hunt. We loved the viking village and crafters. The Charlie the goat is super friendly. The ladies at the station were really nice and had a good chat with them. We had our picnic on one of the many picnic tables.Visited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
I've been a regular visitor to Murton Park, taking part in living history events since 2004. Over the years while there I've learned learned a lot about history, traditional crafts and made some very good friends. It's a fantastic place to visit and because the place is always developing there's always something new to see from season to season
Great place for smaller kids to play. Interesting rooms to look round. Café is OK but a tad expensive.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Lovely spontaneous day out. 3yo enjoyed seeing the trains and tractors, and the short train ride. There's an interesting Viking village with different displays, a Roman display and lots of animals too.
The museum is both enclosed and open areas. Your ticket lasts a year which is a bonus. There is plenty to see and if you like vintage tractors it has plenty to look at close up. There are animals and various theme areas which are interesting. The cafe was very good and I really recommend their coffee. The staff are friendly and even allow your dog to go in with you. Overall a good half day out.
Play area for kids could be bigger, but lots to see, and the family ticket is valid for the year, so decent value for money, given there are different events each weekend check the website
Fantastic value for money as your tickets last a year! Many things are at Murton Park including Museum spaces with old farming machinery and equipment, Farm animals Chickens, goats, sheep, ponies, ducks and rabbits!, Viking village, Roman camp, outdoor playground and an indoor 'role-play' set up too! Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, it's a place popular for education visits so not everything may be available if you go term time. They have special events throught the year including western renactors, Viking reenactors and a santa special! There's an on site cafe, current food is provided by 'Nan's van' and is mostly different bagels or chips.
